SPECIAL RECOGNITIONS Robert Styers Texas State University Employee of the Month June 2016 Our faculty, staff, and students in the College have earned accolades both internally and externally. A sampling of recent recognitions include: Facult y/Staf f Ann Burnette , Communication, received the John I. Sisco Excellence in Teaching Award from the Southern States Communication Association. Shawn Camp , Art, had his solo show Aphotic Zone ranked #1 in The Austin Chronicle’s “Top 10 List for Arts-Related Program Activities in 2015.” Mary Ellen Cavitt , Music, won the Everette Swinney Faculty Senate Award for Teaching Excellence. Stephanie Dailey , Communication, won Texas State University’s 2015 Award for Excellence in Online Teaching. Jeff Dell , Art, was selected by The Print Center (Philadelphia) to be one of three artists from the Center’s 90th Annual International Competition for a solo exhibition. Laurie Fluker , Journalism, won the Visionary Award from the Office of Disability Services and the Outstanding Professor Award from the Black Student Alliance. Daris Hale , Music, was named a national Fulbright Ambassador and is the new Fulbright representative for Texas State’s Fulbright Scholar Program. Sean Horan , Communication, was named one of the top 25 most prolific and inf luential contributors to the Communication discipline. The Shay Ishii Dance Company was named in the Austin American - Statesman Best of the Arts 2015 ; their performance of Dancestry earned 5 Austin Critics Table Award nominations. Eugene Lee , Theatre, was nominated for Best Actor awards in Atlanta, Boston, and Chicago; in Chicago, he won the Sidney Poitier Award for Best Leading Actor for his performance in Stop. Reset. Kristin Roach , Music, received the Part-time Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award in the College. Cindy Royal , Journalism, took 2nd place in Texas State University’s 2015 Award for Excellence in Online Teaching. Debra Sowards , College Advising, was recognized as the September Academic Advisor of the Month. Maia Wright , Art, was awarded first place in the 2015 New York Book Show for her design of Frederick Law Olmstead: Plans and Views of Public Park . Student s Sergio Carvajal , Journalism, won the Graduate College’s Outstanding Master’s Thesis Award in Digital Scholarship. Liz Fisher , Theatre, won the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival National Directing Award; she is the 10th theatre student to win a national award from the Kennedy Center. Jordan Morille , Theatre, had his play Norma’s Rest selected for inclusion in The Best Short Play’s 2014-2015. College Report 2016 | 09
