18 years Elizabeth McDonald Dean’s Office Event and Publications Coordinator Elizabeth “Liz” McDonald , College Events and Publication Coordinator retired December 2015 after serving 19 years in the Dean’s Office. In addition to her duties overseeing concerts and events for the college, Liz dedicated herself to studying and becoming proficient in various software-publishing programs to improve her skill set thereby producing professional quality print pieces for the ofce of the Dean. Because of her dedicated service Liz received the Employee of the Month in January of 2013 and went on to receive the prestigious Employee of the Year for Texas State University. Currently Liz is thoroughly enjoying retirement life spending her time between Nebraska and her home in Wimberley. 42 years Phil Salem Communication Studies Professor In his 42 years as a faculty member at Texas State, Phil Salem taught nearly 30 diferent communication courses, including one of the first classes in the nation about communication and technology. He directed over 500 student research projects, served as interim chair and the department’s graduate advisor for over 20 years. Dr. Salem has a national reputation as a pioneer in organizational communication, and has been honored by the National and International Communication Associations for his org comm research contributions. He has delivered guest lectures at many universities around the country as well as invited scholarly presentations in Austria, Belgium, Italy, and Russia. He was awarded a Fulbright Senior Specialist fellowship. 28 years Cary Michaels Music Associate Professor Cary Michaels joined the voice faculty in 1988. He has performed operatic tenor roles with Opera Omaha, Virginia Opera Association, Opera Delaware, Opera Company of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Opera Teater, Northern Virginia Opera, Austin Lyric Opera, Chautauqua Opera Company, and Te Corfu International Music Festival (Greece). He has performed oratorio solos in the U.S. and Europe, with the Milwaukee Symphony, St. Louis Symphony, Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, Austin Choral Union, Victoria Bach Festival, North Danish Symphony Orchestra, Kammerorchester Frankfurt, Pennsylvania Pro Musica, Musica Sacra, and Santa Fe Desert Chorale. Michaels holds a Master of Music from the University of Nebraska and an Artist Diploma from the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia. 12 years Frank Walsh Journalism & Mass Communication Associate Professor FrankWalsh joined Texas State in 2004, teaching public relations and media law. Professionally, he planned, executed and evaluated marketing, advertising and public relations programs for various entities. Walsh received a Public Relations Honor Award and a Telly for his work with the Texas Chiropractic Association. He was named Outstanding Educator by both the Public Relations Society of America and Student Public Relations Society of America. He earned his Doctorate of Law, Master of Arts, and Bachelor of Arts degrees from the University of Montana and is a member of the Public Relations Society of America and the Montana Bar Association.
