EXCEPTIONAL FACULTY Texas State University’s highest individual faculty honor is the designation of University Distinguished Professor, which then makes one eligible for the designation of Regents’ Professor; the latter is bestowed by the Board of Regents of the Texas State University System. Both designations honor tenured professors whose performance in teaching, research, and service have been exemplary and recognized at the state, national, and international levels. REGENTS’ PROFESSOR STEVEN BEEBE Communication Studies Dr. Steven A. Beebe is Regents’ and University Distinguished Professor of Communication Studies. He served as Chair of the Department of Communication Studies for 28 years and Associate Dean of the College of Fine Arts and Communication for 25 years. Dr. Beebe has been a Visiting Scholar at both Oxford University and Cambridge University. Dr. Beebe is author and co-author of 12 books (with multiple editions totaling more than 70 books) that have been used at hundreds of colleges and universities throughout the world, including Russian and Chinese editions. He has authored or co- authored more than 50 published articles and book chapters, plus over 150 papers and presentations at professional conferences. AWARDED IN 2007 REGENTS’ PROFESSOR IAN DAVIDSON Music Dr. Ian Davidson is Regents’ and University Distinguished Professor of Music. An oboist, Dr. Davidson has appeared as soloist and chamber musician in thirty countries on six continents. He has performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., and his many international concerts have taken him to Italy, England, Russia, Brazil, Argentina, Scotland, Austria, Slovakia, Poland, China, Hungary, Czech Republic, Australia, and the Republic of South Africa. International recitals and residencies include the Moscow Conservatory of Music, Hong Kong Baptist University, the University of Silesia, Trinity College of Music in London, and many more. AWARDED IN 2014 UNIVERSITY DISTINGUISHED PROFESSOR NICO SCHÜLER Music Dr. Nico Schüler is a music scholar whose research interests include interdisciplinary aspects of 19th/20th century music, methodology of music research, computer applications in music, music theory pedagogy, music historiography, as well as creativity. He is the author/ editor of 21 books, and the author of more than 110 articles. At Texas State, Dr. Schüler was the Coordinator of Music Teory (2001-2006 and 2012-2013), Director of Graduate Studies in Music (2006-2008), Presidential Fellow (2008-2009), Co-Chair of the QEP Task Force (2007- 2010), Co-Chair of the Common Experience (2006-2011), Chair of the University Performing Arts Committee (since 2012), and Chair of the Music Strategic Planning Task Force (2016-2017).
