SCHOLARLY & CREATIVE BEVERLY PENN SCHOLARLY & CREATIVE EUGENE LEE BEVERLY PENN was selected by the Texas Commission on the Arts as the 2017 State of Texas 3D Artist of the Year. MICHAEL DEVLIN is the second place recipient of the 2017 Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication Most Promising Professor Award. JUDY OSKAM received a National Association of Television Program Executives 2017 Faculty Fellowship from the NATPE Education Foundation. She was also a Broadcast Education Association 2017 Ignite Scholar. CAROLYN WATSON was one of fve women conductors selected world-wide to work with Maestro Marin Alsop and lead the BBC Concert Orchestra in performance in London in January 2017; in 2016 she was one of ten women conductors selected to be part of an elite training program, Te Institute for Women Conductors at Te Dallas Opera. MAUREEN KEELEY received the 2016 Distinguished Article of the Year from the Health Communication Division of the National Communication Association and the 2016 Outstanding Article of the Year from the Journal of Family Communication . SEAN HORAN received the Article of the Year Award from the Eastern Communication Association in both 2016 and 2014. VANESSA DE MACEDO HIGGINS JOYCE’S co-authored paper “Sharing the Stage: Analysis of social media adoption by Latin American journalists” was selected by Routledge as a 2016 top 10 article on Social Media and Digital Journalism. MARIAN HOUSER was named the Eastern Communication Association 2016 Research Fellow. EUGENE LEE won Best Actor Awards in Pittsburgh (2016) and Chicago (2015), with additional nominations in Atlanta and Boston (2015). He was the NAACP Teatre Award Best Actor in 1990, and his play East Texas Hot Links won the 1994 AUDELCO Award in New York for Best New Play. MAIA WRIGHT’S book design was selected as one of the 50 best-designed books of the year in the 2016 AIGA 50 Books /50 Covers awards. One of Maia’s designs was awarded frst place in the 2015 New York Book Show. STEPHANIE DAILEY received the 2015 Rising Star Award from the Training and Development Division of the National Communication Association. MARTIN MCCAIN won two 2015 Billboard Global Music Awards Silver Medals. TODD OXFORD was nominated for a Grammy (Contemporary Instrumental Album Category) for his 2014 solo CD Synaesthesia ; it won two Billboard Global Music Awards Silver Medals. His 2016 solo CD Tango Magnetism also won two Global Music Awards Silver Medals. He earned two other Global Music Awards in 2013. TRICIA BURKE received the 2014 Article of the Year from the Journal of Family Communication . REBEKAH FOX received the 2014 Janice Hocker Rushing Early Career Research Award from the Southern States Communication Association. REBEKAH FOX and ANN BURNETTE received the 2014 James Madison Prize from the Free Speech Division of the Southern States Communication Association. COLLEGE REPORT 2017 | 11
