SCHOLARLY & CREATIVE CYNTHIA GONZALES SCHOLARLY & CREATIVE BUTCH MILES BUTCH MILES , as a member of the Count Basie Orchestra, won Grammy Awards for the albums Count Plays Duke (1998), On Te Road (1979), and Prime Time (1977). In 1976, he played a Royal Command Performance for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II which was televised throughout all of Europe, and he has been nominated numerous times for the European equivalent of the Grammy. CYNTHIA GONZALES , as a vocalist and soprano section leader with the professional choral ensemble Conspirare, sang on the Grammy-nominated albums A Company of Voices (2009), Treshold of Night (2008), and Requiem (2006). DAVID DAWSON , while playing with Asleep at the Wheel, won a Grammy for their song “String of Pars” (1987). HANK HEHMSOTH , as a member of the Christopher Cross pop-rock group, won a 1981 Academy Award for Best Song for “Arthur’s Teme (Best Tat You Can Do).” In 1980, the group won fve Grammy Awards for their debut album and hit single “Sailing.” BUTCH MILES was the drummer for the Count Basie Orchestra from 1975-1979 and from 1997-2007. He has performed with artists such as Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis, Jr., Lena Horne, Ella Fitzgerald, Tony Bennett, and Itzak Perlman. His many television appearance include 60 Minutes , Te Tonight Show with Johnny Carson , Te Merv Grifn Show , Te Dick Cavett Show , and Te Jerry Lewis Telethon . He has recorded over 100 albums. SERVICE ROSEANN MANDZIUK served as the 2017 President of the Southern States Communication Association. NICO SCHÜLER has been serving as President of the American Musicological Society Southwest Chapter since 2016. Additionally, he is the 2017-2019 President of the College Music Society South Central Chapter. TIM ENGLAND received the Kappa Tau Alpha William H. Taft Public Service Award in 2015. TODD OXFORD is a voting member of the National Academy of the Recording Arts and Sciences annual Grammy Awards. MARIAN HOUSER served as the Editor of Communication Teacher from 2013-2016. STEVE BEEBE served as the 2013 President of the National Communication Association. JUDY OSKAM served as the 2008-09 President of the Southwest Education Council for Journalism and Mass Communication. LYNN BRINCKMEYER served as president of the National Association for Music Education’s (MENC) 2006-2008. ROSEANN MANDZIUK was an American Council on Education Fellow in 2005-2006. STEVE BEEBE was an American Council on Education Fellow in 2002-2003. ROSEANN MANDZIUK served as Editor of Women’s Studies in Communication from 1991 to 1994.
