RETIRED FACULTY AND STAFF RICHARD SODDERS Professor Theatre 32 YEARS BURTON PRITZKER Senior Lecturer Photography 13 YEARS COLLEEN COPELAND Administrative Assistant Art and Design 13 YEARS Dr. Richard Sodders, who spent his undergraduate years at Southwest Texas State, earned his Ph.D. at Louisiana State University and attended Film School at New York University. After taking on leadership roles at the Shakespeare Festival of Dallas and teaching at Midwestern State University and Texas A&M, Richard returned to San Marcos to head the directing program in the Department of Theatre and Dance. He was chair of the department from 1999 to 2005. His directing credits include Noises Off , Arcadia , Cabaret , Twelfth Night , South Pacific , Brighton Beach Memoir s, and Lend Me a Tenor . Richard won the Amoco Medal for National Excellence in Directing in 1977 and holds the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Medal of Achievement for his work with the American College Theatre Festival. His most recent work at Texas State was in film where he has been instrumental in developing this growing program. Burton Pritzker received a degree in architecture from the University of California at Berkeley in 1965. Burton’s architectural background provided a distinctive look and feel to his photographs and he was commissioned by graphic designers to do annual reports. Burton has done work for Lexus, Learjet and Pentagram. He has received awards from the American Institute of Graphic Artists, Communication Arts magazine, the New York Art Directors Club, Mead Annual Report Show, Print magazine, AR 100 Award Show and the Library of Congress. In 2002 the University of Texas Press released his book, Texas Rangeland . The Museum of the Southwest, Midland, Texas, published his second book, Forgotten Planes , in 2009. Selections of his work have been placed in the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, the Harry Ransom Center at the University of Texas at Austin, the Wittliff Collections at Texas State University, the El Paso Museum of Art and the Albuquerque Museum. Colleen Copeland was born and raised in Austin, Texas, where she continues to live. Prior to joining Texas State University, she worked eleven years as an administrative assistant at the Texas Department of Human Services, now the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. The majority of that time she acted as Assistant to the Program Director for Protective Services in Travis and the surrounding counties. Following that, Colleen worked seventeen years as Office Manager at Fellers Marketing and Advertising. She began working at Texas State in the School of Art and Design in 2004 and was an outstanding administrative assistant, known for her kindness, willingness to help, and hard work. After thirteen and a half years, she retired to devote time caring for her first grandchild. She is greatly missed. 22 | COLLEGE OF FINE ARTS AND COMMUNICATION
