C3 RESEARCH CENTER ABOUT C3 Te Center for Communication, Collaboration, and Creativity, also known as C3, serves the research and creative needs of faculty in the College of Fine Arts and Communication. Te college’s C3 Research Center ofers support to enhance the entire continuum of faculty research and scholarly creative activities, from the initial spark of an idea to the delivery of a successful project. Overall, the C3 Center cuts across academic disciplines and university silos to build a sustainable culture of externally funded scholarship, creative activity and collaboration among faculty in the College of Fine Arts and Communication and beyond. INCREAS ING FUNDED RESEARCH In addition to helping faculty apply for traditional funding opportunities, fellowships and government contracts, C3 is on the forefront of innovative fundraising activities supported by the university including crowdfunding, and helps faculty pursue funding from private sponsors like foundations and corporations. Texas State aims to increase restricted research expenditures as we strive to become eligible for National Research University Funding status. Since the inception of C3 in 2014, the number of submitted proposals and research expenditures for the College of Fine Arts and Communication has increased dramatically. In 2015, the College of Fine Arts and Communication had fve awards totaling $64,000. In 2016, the college submitted 31 proposals and 16 were awarded totaling $181,962. Here is a glimpse at some of the fascinating future research and creative projects C3 is supporting: STEPHANIE DAILEY ( Comm Studies ) is working with Special Olympics Texas to research and identify keys to employment success that will help prepare others for a fulflling job that provides a living wage. HANK HEHMSOTH ( Music ) is applying for a National Endowment for the Arts grant to record, produce, distribute and archive short videos and radio spots of 88-year old NEA Jazz Master Dan Morgenstern; the project includes material on native San Marcos jazz artist Eddie Durham. TOM GRIMES ( Mass Comm) and his research team are performing a clinical study on social media’s psychological efect on today’s youth. REBEKAH FOX ( Comm Studies ) is developing a wild-land frefghting web-app that houses regional tactical information that will be easily accessible to frefghters who travel to fght fre outside of the region where they normally work.
