’ RETIRED FACULTY AND STAFF PROMOTION WITH TENURE JACK LAUMER Professor Music 41 YEARS PROMOTION WITH TENURE STEVEN BEEBE Regents and University Distinguished Professor Communication Studies 32 YEARS PROMOTION LINDA ALLEN Coordinator, Student Publications The University Star 25 YEARS PROMOTION SANDRA MAYO Professor Theatre and Dance 17 YEARS Jack Laumer grew up on a sheep and cattle ranch in S. Dakota. After fnishing his master’s he taught at the LaGuardia High School of Music and Art and Performing Arts in New York, and was a soloist with the Goldman Band for four seasons. Professor of Trumpet for 41 years at Texas State University, he saw the Trumpet studio grow from 7 to 40 trumpet majors, and helped start the Texas State Orchestra and Sound Recording degree. He was a member of the Austin Symphony for 38 years. Vintage cars, travel and sailing will keep him busy. Dr. Steven A. Beebe is Regents’ and University Distinguished Professor of Communication Studies. He served as Chair of the Department of Communication Studies for 28 years and Associate Dean of the College of Fine Arts and Communication for 25 years. Steven is also the author and co-author of twelve books (with editions totaling more than 75 books) that have been used at hundreds of colleges and universities (including international, Canadian, Russian and Chinese editions) by several million students throughout the world. Linda joined Texas State University in the Accounting Department in 1993 and moved to Student Publications as Coordinator/Business Manager. After 25 years of service, Linda decided to retire in December 2017 to spend more time enjoying her grandchildren. Sandra M. Mayo, Ph.D., retired as a professor in December of 2017. She served Texas State as Director of the Center for Multicultural and Gender Studies (MCGS) (2001-2013) and Director of Graduate Studies for the Department of Teatre and Dance (2013-2017). She taught graduate and undergraduate courses in Diversity Studies, as well as Teatre History, Teory, and Research. In retirement, she continues Black Teatre research while also working on a website and flm documentary based on her publications on Black Teatre in Texas. 16 | COLLEGE OF FINE ARTS AND COMMUNICATION
