C3 RESEARCH CENTER ABOUT C3 Te Center for Communication, Collaboration, and Creativity, also known as C3, serves the research and creative needs of faculty in the College of Fine Arts and Communication. C3 aims to leverage external funding for interdisciplinary research and creative ideas to make a positive impact in the way people live, learn and work. Te college’s C3 Research Center ofers support to enhance the entire continuum of faculty research and scholarly creative activities, from the initial spark of an idea to the delivery of a successful project. INCREAS ING FUNDED RESEARCH In addition to helping faculty apply for traditional funding opportunities, fellowships and government contracts, C3 is on the forefront of innovative fundraising activities and helps faculty pursue funding from private sponsors like foundations and corporations. Texas State aims to increase restricted research expenditures as we strive to become eligible for National Research University Funding status. Since the inception of C3 in 2014, the number of submitted proposals and research expenditures for the College of Fine Arts and Communication has increased dramatically. Te College of Fine Arts and Communication had a record year for external funding expenditures. INTERNAL FUNDING AWARDED For the Research Enhancement Program (REP), the number of REPs awarded is based on the amount of funds available in the REP program per year and the number of proposals submitted. In 2017, the college submitted 24 proposals and 7 were awarded totaling $70,400 (2nd highest in the University). REPS AWARDED: Bethany Johnson Carolyn Watson Daniel Carter Tricia Burke and Michael Burns Molly Sherman Ames Asbell and Karla Hamelin Kate Glasheen-Dentino FUTURE RESEARCH MIHYUN KIM (Art and Design) is applying for a National Endowment of the Humanities grant to support the exploratory phase of her Placed project that will enable members of the public to preserve and share their unique community history with others. SEAN JUSTICE (Art and Design) is seeking funding for his Families Learning Together (FLT) project that builds participatory web literacy for kids, families, and teachers in San Marcos, Texas. SHAY ISHII (Teatre and Dance) and LEANNE SMITH (Teatre and Dance) are applying for a National Endowment for Arts grant to support their Dancestry: Illuminating the Past, Inspiring the Now project that showcases masterworks of modern dance pioneers such as Loïe Fuller, Isadora Duncan, and Erick Hawkins.
