2019 College Report

College of Fine Arts and Communication College Report 2019 More Success. Tere are many ways to defne success. An internal measure of success might be how well one realizes one’s potential. An external measure of success might be how one compares competitively with others. Another measure of success might be how much positive impact one has on other people. Tese Points of Pride, and this College Report as a whole, show that the College of Fine Arts and Communication has earned a high degree of success by all three of these measures. For example, Texas State has the 30th highest enrollment of Hispanic students in the country, but we are # 4 in Communication degrees earned by Hispanics, #6 in Fine Arts degrees earned, and rated the 17th best university overall for Hispanics. By maximizing our internal potential, we are outperforming other universities. Our belief in giving back, of manifesting success on the level of social impact, is also clearly evident. Items such as the 21 Fulbright recipients and being the 14th best university for military veterans exemplify the dynamic interchange between educator and student as the Fulbright Scholar learns from the international community he or she serves, and the university as a whole prospers from the perspective of our military veterans who study at Texas State. Tese are large-scale examples of our daily mission to change student lives, to foster the whole human being, and to create alumni who proceed to impact their communities. Tese Points of Pride also highlight the college’s rise in prestige and academic excellence. Te number of national titles, national awards, and frequent top 20 national rankings still catch some people by surprise; however, as I start my 21st year here, I have clearly seen that when we are at our best, we can compete with the best. I extend my gratitude to all faculty, staf, students, and alumni who have helped etch a remarkable success story.
