College Report 2019 22 College of Fine Arts and Communication 23 external recogni t ions cont inued TODD OXFORD Associate Professor Music Grammy Nomination Stephanie L. Dailey received the 2015 Rising Star Award from the Training and Development Division of the National Communication Association. Martin McCain won two 2015 Billboard Global Silver Medal Awards. Craig Hella Johnson , as artistic director and conductor of Conspirare, has earned eight Grammy nominations, winning for their album Te Sacred Spirit of Russia 2014 . Todd Oxford was nominated for a Grammy (Contemporary Instrumental Album Category) for his 2014 solo CD Synaesthesia ; it won two Billboard Global Silver Medal Awards. His 2016 solo CD Tango Magnetism also won two Billboard Global Silver Medal Awards. He earned two other Global Music Awards in 2013 . Tricia Burke received the 2014 Article of the Year from the Journal of Family Communication . Rebekah Fox received the 2014 Janice Hocker Rushing Early Career Research Award from the Southern States Communication Association. Rebekah Fox and Ann Burnette received the 2014 James Madison Prize from the Free Speech Division of the Southern States Communication Association. Craig Hella Johnson was selected by the Texas Commission on the Arts as the 2013 State of Texas Music Artist of the Year. In 2012 , a 1996 article co-written by Tom Grimes was recognized as one of the 50 most cited articles in the Journalism and Mass Communication Quarterly’s then 84-year publishing history. HANK HEHMSOTH Associate Professor of Practice Music Fellow in Jazz Composition Hank Hehmsoth was a 2012 MacDowell Norton Stevens Fellow in Composition and a 1980 National Endowment for the Arts Fellow in jazz composition. Marian Houser received the 2010 Past President’s President Award from the Eastern Communication Association. Cynthia Gonzales , as a vocalist and soprano section leader with the professional choral ensemble Conspirare, sang on the Grammy-nominated albums A Company of Voices 2009 , Threshold of Night 2008 , and Requiem 2006 . Ian Davidson and Faith DeBow were performers on Conspirare’s Grammy-nominated album A Company of Voices 2009 . Chuck Ney received a 2008 Kennedy Center American College Teatre Festival (KC/ACTF) National Faculty Fellowship in Directing Award. Roseann Mandziuk received the 2008 Gender Scholar of the Year Award from the Southern States Communication Association. Maureen Keeley’s 2007 book Final Conversations: Helping the Living and the Dying Talk to Each Other (co-authored with Julie Yingling) was awarded Book of the Year in Consumer Health by the American Journal of Nursing , Silver winner Self-Help Book of the Year by Foreword magazine, and Bronze winner in Aging/Death & Dying (Ippy) Award from Independent Publishing. Sheila Hargett had her costume designs selected for the Prague Quadrennial International Design Exhibit in 2007 and 2003 . KAITLIN HOPKINS Senior Lecturer Theatre and Dance Ovation & Drama Desk Award Nominations Kaitlin Hopkins received Ovation Award nominations in 2005 and 2003 and a Drama Desk Award nomination in 2001 . She performs on the original cast albums for Bat Boy: Te Musical , Te Great American Trailer Park Musical , and Bare: A Pop Opera . Roseann Mandziuk and Suzanne Fitch received the 2002 Southern States Communication Association’s Rose B. Johnson Article Award. Laura Lane had principal roles in the network series Hunter , LA Law , and Te Nanny (C.C. Babcock); for her theatre work, she won the 1996 LA Critics Best Supporting Actress award. Michelle Ney was one of 36 designers selected for the 1999 Prague Quadrennial International Design Exhibit. Butch Miles , as a member of the Count Basie Orchestra, won Grammy Awards for the albums Count Plays Duke 1998 , On Te Road 1979 , and Prime Time 1977 . He has performed with Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis, Jr., Lena Horne, Ella Fitzgerald, Tony Bennett, and Itzhak Perlman. David Dawson , while playing with Asleep at the Wheel, won a Grammy for their song “Sugarfoot Rag” 1988 . Hank Hehmsoth , as a member of the Christopher Cross pop-rock group, won a 1981 Academy Award for Best Song for "Arthur's Teme (Best Tat You Can Do)." In 1980 , the group won fve Grammy Awards for their debut album and hit single Sailing . Hank Hehmsoth performed on tour with Christopher Cross (5 years), Fleetwood Mac ( Tusk album tour), Te Eagles ( Te Long Run album tour), and Bonnie Raitt. JUDY OSKAM Professor Journalism and Mass Communication 2nd Place Administrator of the Year Award SERVICE Roseann Mandziuk is the 2019 Second Vice President of the National Communication Association. Judy Oskam was the 2018 2nd place recipient of the Scripps Howard Foundation Administrator of the Year Award. Roseann Mandziuk received the 2017 National Communication Association Women’s Caucus Francine Merritt Award. Nico Schüler has been serving as President of the American Musicological Society Southwest Chapter since 2016 . Tim England received the Kappa Tau Alpha William H. Taft Public Service Award in 2015 . Todd Oxford and Hank Hehmsoth are voting members of the National Academy of the Recording Arts and Sciences annual Grammy Awards. Marian Houser served as Editor of Communication Teacher from 2013-2016 . Steve Beebe served as the 2013 President of the National Communication Association. Lynn Brinckmeyer served as President of the National Association for Music Educators from 2006-2008 . Roseann Mandziuk was an American Council on Education Fellow in 2005-2006 . Steve Beebe was an American Council on Education Fellow in 2002-2003 .
