College Report 2019 42 school of mus i c Te Texas State University School of Music proudly provides an intensive and nurturing environment that emphasizes student-faculty interaction and performance opportunities. Faculty guide students to become performers, educators, and scholars. A long-standing, fully accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Music, the School of Music has 90 faculty who teach nearly 600 students who perform in more than 30 ensembles; cumulatively, the school ofers more than 250 concerts on campus each year. Te school ofers undergraduate degrees in Music, Music Education, Performance, and Sound Recording Technology. Graduate degrees include Music Education, Performance, Composition, Conducting, Music History and Music Teory. RECENT ACCOLADES AND OPPORTUNITIES • 10TH TEXAS STATE INTERNATIONAL PIANO FESTIVAL was recorded by NPR’s From the Top • Feria del Mariachi celebrated its 20th anniversary with a new stage production entitled Soy Mexicano • TXST Chorale joined the Conspirare Symphonic Chorus and the Austin Symphony Orchestra for performances of the Brahms Requiem • Bobcat Marching Band was one of fve university marching bands featured at the College Band Directors National Association Conference • OPERA RECENTLY WON THE #1 AND # 3 RANKED PRODUCTIONS from the National Opera Association • Count Basie Orchestra performed in conjunction with the 15th Anniversary of Eddie Durham Jazz Celebration and 30th Anniversary of Hill Country Jazz Festival • Music Teacher Training program produces more music educators than any other university in the state • TXST Wind Ensemble featured at TMEA and the College Band Directors National Association Conference • Mariachi Nueva Generación has WON 10 TEAM TITLES and 5 solo vocalist titles at the Vargas Mariachi Extravaganza • Sound Recording Technology students work in a commercial recording studio and intern at events like SXSW in Austin • Triving community music outreach programs include Youth Mariachi, the Hill Country Youth Chorus, the Texas State String Project, and the FunKey Piano Project RECENT GUEST ARTISTS Ralph Alwood (Music Education), Attacca String Quartet, U.S. Army Men’s Chorus, Svetlana Belsky (piano), Luis Conte (Latin percussion), Dr. Gabriel Dobner (piano), Millennium Brass, and John Riley (jazz drummer) ALUMNI (See also Distinguished Alumni) JOHN MARCUS BINDEL Opera star, two-time Grammy nominations JEREMY BR ANSON Associate Principal Percussionist at the Pittsburgh Symphony GILBERT ELORREAGE Won a Grammy as a member of Grupo Fantasma CHR ISTIN M.
