College Report 2019 48 49 c3 research center Te Center for Communication, Collaboration, and Creativity, also known as C3, serves the research and creative needs of faculty in the College of Fine Arts and Communication. C3 aims to leverage external funding for interdisciplinary research and creative ideas to make a positive impact in the way people live, learn, and work. Te college’s C3 Research Center ofers support to enhance the entire continuum of faculty research and scholarly creative activities, from the initial spark of an idea to the delivery of a successful project. Overview: C3 aims to leverage external funding for interdisciplinary research and creative ideas to make a positive impact in the way people, live, learn, and work. INCREASING FUNDED RESEARCH In addition to helping faculty apply for traditional funding opportunities, fellowships and government contracts, C3 is on the forefront of innovative fundraising activities and helps faculty pursue funding from private sponsors like foundations and corporations. Texas State aims to increase restricted research expenditures as we strive to become eligible for National Research University Funding status. Since the inception of C3 in 2014, the number of submitted proposals and sponsored program expenditures for the College of Fine Arts and Communication has increased dramatically. C3 remains committed to supporting faculty in achieving their creative and scholarly goals by encouraging faculty to submit proposals for internal funding and building upon this foundation to submit for external funding. In the 2018-2019 fscal year, the College of Fine Arts and Communication will have nearly $300,000 in sponsored programs expenditures from foundations and state and federal funders. NUMBER OF PROPOSALS SUBMITTED: 39 total proposals submitted for the 2018-19 fscal year. Internal ( research enhancement projects, etc. ) External ( state, federal, and foundations ) 35 25 15 5 2015-16 2016-17 2017-18 2018-19 INTERNAL FUNDING AWARDED: For the Research Enhancement Program (REP), the number of REPs awarded is based on the amount of funds available in the REP program per year and the number of proposals submitted by each college per year. In 2017, the College of Fine Arts and Communication submitted 24 proposals and 7 were awarded totaling $70,400. In 2018, the college submitted 21 proposals and 5 were awarded totaling $54,776 (3rd highest in the university). Shay Ishii ( Teatre and Dance ) and LeAnne Smith ( Teatre and Dance ) are applying for a National Endowment for Arts grant to support their Dancestry: Illuminating the Past, Inspiring the Now project that showcases masterworks of modern dance pioneers such as Loïe Fuller, Isadora Duncan, and Erick Hawkins.
