Here is a sampling of their external recognition as teachers, scholars, artists, and leaders: T EACH I NG Jason Kwak was a 2021 inductee into the Steinway and Sons Teacher Hall of Fame. (PICTURED) Tammy Fife , in 2022, was inducted into the Texas Dance Educators Hall of Fame. Laurie Fluker won the 2021 Erma Johnson Hadley Faculty of the Year from the Texas Association of Black Personnel in Higher Education. Cindy Royal won the 2021 Gene Barnwell Waugh Mentor Award. Laurie Fluker was named a 2020 Sun Belt Faculty of the Year recipient. Christa Oliver won the 2020 Liberate Artists Forward Movement Educator Award; she is a 2021 and 2022 Mellon Fellow in School of Theatre and Performance at Harvard. Amber Hinsley won the 2020 Grand Prize Award in the Great Ideas for Teaching Competition. (PICTURED) Kym Fox won the Society of Professional Journalists President’s Award in 2020. Gene Brenek was named the 2020 Austin Advertising Federation’s Educator of the Year. Jenny Buschhorn was named the 2019 Austin Advertising Federation’s Educator of the Year. Clay Craig was named the 2018 Austin Advertising Federation’s Educator of the Year. Jeremy Hutchins received the 2018 Texas Intercollegiate Forensics Association’s Educator of the Year Award. Michael Devlin was the recipient of the 2018 Early Career Teaching Excellence Award from the Advertising Division of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication. Sean Justice received the 2017 Higher Education Educator of the Year Award from the Texas Art Education Association. Lynn Ledbetter received the 2016 Phyllis Young Outstanding Studio Teacher of the Year Award from the Texas Chapter of the American String Teachers Association. Ann Burnette received the Southern States Communication Association 2016 John I. Sisco Excellence in Teaching Award. Sarah Maines received a 2016 National Partners in American Theatre Mentor Award from the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival. Marian L. Houser received the 2015 National Communication Association Teachers on Teaching Award. Kaysie Seitz Brown received the 2015 Texas Association of Health, Physical Recreation, and Dance Educator of the Year Award. David Nolan received the 2015 National Press Photographers Association’s Robin F. Garland Educator Award. Roseann Mandziuk received the 2014 Michael M. Osborn Teacher Scholar Award from the Southern States Communication Association. Wayne Kraemer received the 2014 Texas Speech Communication Association Educator of the Year Award; he also received the 2013 E. R. Nichols Award, a national forensics teaching award presented by Pi Kappa Delta. Cindy Royal received the 2013 Charles E. Scripps Journalism and Mass Communication Teacher of the Year Award from the Scripps Howard Foundation; she also received a 2013 John S. Knight Journalism Fellowship. SCHOL ARLY & CREAT I VE Joey Fauerso was awarded a 2022 Guggenheim Fellowship in the Fine Arts. Craig Hella Johnson , in 2022, as Artistic Director and Conductor of Conspirare, earned his tenth Grammy nomination; previously, they won for their album The Sacred Spirit of Russia (2014). Martin McCain , in 2022, won his 5th Global Music Award. Erina Duganne earned a major 2022 grant from the Andy Warhol Foundation. (PICTURED) Maureen Keeley received the 2021 Bernard Brommel Award for Outstanding Scholarship for Distinguished Service in Family Communication from the National Communication Association. Jennifer Datchuk was selected by the Texas Commission on the Arts as the 2021 State of Texas 3D Artist of the Year; she was also the 2021 Ceramic Artist of the Year by Ceramic Monthly . Stephanie Dailey won the International Communication Association 2020 Linda L. Putnam Early Career Scholar Award. Elizabeth Eger won a 2020 Best Article Award from the National Communication Association. Joey Fauerso won a 2020 Joan Mitchell Foundation Painters and Sculptors grant. Amber Hinsley won a 2020 Best Article Award from the newspaper Research Journal . Johnny McAllister’s film Bull debuted at the 2019 Cannes Film festival and won three awards at the Deauville American Film Festival in France. Todd Oxford won a 2019 Global Music Award Silver Medal. Eugene Lee was inducted into the Texas Institute of Letters in 2019; he also won the 2019 Helen Hayes Award for Best Lead Actor. Craig Hella Johnson and Conspirare received a 2019 Medal of Arts honor from the Texas Cultural Trust. John Lopez won the American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education 2019 William Aguilar Cultural Arts Award. Shelby Hadden’s film Tightly Wound won the Doc’Anims 2018 competition at Animatou in Switzerland. Soomin Remmler won Best of Show award in the Colored Pencil Society of America’s 26th International Annual Exhibition 2018 Chicago. Michael Devlin received the 2018 Emerging Scholar Award from the Communication and Sport Division of the National Communication Association.
