DONOR Spot l ight SHANNON AND KATE F I TZPATRICK College Donors After the death of their father when they were little, Merry Kone FitzPatrick relied on her brother Lewis Woods Kone (Class of 1944) to help her raise her daughters Shannon and Kate FitzPatrick. Shannon would go on to become a teacher and then an attorney, while sister Kate became a landscape architect and then city planner. They both recently retired from their work with the State of Texas. WHY WE G I VE : We were blessed by a childhood surrounded by music and artists pursuing their dreams. Our mother (who along with her brother Bob Kone – who also had a degree in Music from Texas State) started the Woods Kone scholarship after Woods’ death. It has been an honor for us to continue this work to help succeeding generations to share their gifts with the world in memory of our beloved uncle. JAMES AND BRENDA KELLER College Donors James and Brenda met, fell in love, and were married on the SWT campus. After leaving SWT, both took their business degrees and moved to Houston. Initially, Brenda worked in the savings and loan business. She then earned a law degree and worked for Texas Commerce Bank and Harris County Probate Court #4 for twenty six years before her retirement. James went into the lumber business and became a business owner with Marine Lumber Company. He currently serves as the general manager for Deer Park Lumber Company. WHY WE G I VE : Since our graduation in 1973 we have supported SWT and Texas State in many areas. We were blessed to meet two special people who have become part of our lives, Kaitlin Hopkins and Jim Price. Kaitlin and Jim shared their vision of how to support students and make the Texas State Musical Theatre program one of the best in the country. Kaitlin s leadership has not only accomplished this but has made a difference in many young people s lives that we are very proud of. SHE I L A HARGET T College Donor Sheila Hargett was supervisor of the Costume Design/Technology Program at Texas State University for 45 years. Her designs have appeared in over 90 university productions as well as in regional theatres. Sheila received five Kennedy Center American College Theatre Awards. Her designs have been seen in local, state, national, and international theatrical exhibits and in many theatre design publications. Following her retirement in 2016, Sheila was recognized as a Distinguished Professor Emeriti. WHY I G I VE : “I began my journey in theatre in 1963 as an undergraduate student here at Texas State College. Following graduate school, I returned to this campus and launched my 45-year adventure of teaching students to pursue their dreams. Intensely aware of the financial needs of students, it is my hope that my donation will help those amazingly talented young artists reach their life-long goals of working in the theatre.
