Ann Burnette, Wendy Atkins-Sayre and Roseann Mandziuk at the Southern States Conference COMMUNICATION STUDIES Faculty Accolades Steven Beebe published “Structure-Interaction Theory: Conceptual, Contextual and Strategic Influences on Human Communication” in the Russian Journal of Linguistics Vestnik Rudn . He and co- author John T. Masterson also published an updated version of their textbook, Communicating in Small Groups: Principles and Practices that now includes the online-learning software REVEL. Steven and co-authors Seth Frei and Caleb Williams (both M.A. program alums) presented “Teaching Resources and Strategies for the Communication Training and Development Course,” to the Southern States Communication Association Convention in Austin. Steven gave a Guest Skype Lecture to the Department of Communication Studies at the University of Alabama-Birmingham entitled “The Art of Mentoring.” He also gave a Guest Skype Lecture to the College of Communication Studies at Marquette entitled “Meeting Communication Training Needs.” Steven served as an external program reviewer for the DePaul University College of Communication in Chicago, evaluating faculty, curricula and both the undergraduate and graduate programs in Communication. Steven was also an external consultant to the Florida International University College of Architecture, Communication and the Arts to review the integration plan for enhancing study in communication. Tricia Burke and faculty members from the Departments of Art & Design, Psychology and Computer Science have been invited to submit a full proposal for the 2016 Multi-disciplinary Internal Research Grant (MIRG) program sponsored by Texas State. The goal of the 2016 competition is to support established multidisciplinary research teams, with the expressed purpose of enabling teams to earn federal support within the following one to two years. Tricia Burke and Michael Burns presented original research on family communication during the transition to college to the Freshman Year Seminar at Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio. Tricia also gave an additional presentation to the senior level colloquium series at Wittenberg.
