FACULTY ACCOLADES Michael Burns delivered a presentation entitled, “Life After Graduation: Tackling Corporate America,” to 100 resident assistants at their in-service workshop. The presentation focused on the job search and the value of networking and relationship building when navigating professional life. Michael has been asked to speak at TEDxFargo this July about CoSearch and the value of unlikely collaboration and how it is a catalyst for problem solving. He will speak to more than 3,000 audience members both attending the presentation and live streaming the event from around the world. Jen Faires, manager of Corporate Partner Activation for the Atlanta Hawks, delivered a guest presentation to his sport communication course centering on the essential communication skills in the sport industry and her experiences as a woman in a male-dominated field. NBC’s Today Show has invited Michael and two Texas State students to be a part of their 2018 Winter Olympic Games broadcast team, completing a five-week internship in Pyeong Chang, South Korea. Michael also received an Alpha Chi “Favorite Professor” award. Miriam Sobre-Denton published “Developing the critical intercultural class-space: Theoretical implications and pragmatic applications of critical intercultural communication pedagogy” in the journal Intercultural Education . Rebekah Fox presented “Storytelling as a Foundational Principle” to the U.S. Forest Service National Advanced Fire Resource Institutes in Orlando and in Tucson.
