Hall 10 | April & May | College News DANCE Dance Studies, Per formance & Choreography, Single Teaching Certif ication, & Dual Teaching Certif ications FACULTY ACCOLADES Ana Baer was invited as a special guest to show Shift (collaboration with Pat Stone , Brandon Gonzalez and Nan Simms ), La Sabina and Dunes (collaboration with Kim Olson ) at Te Primigenia Festival, Morelia MX on April 6-13. Ana received the Wilson Latin American Research Award 2019 from Te Center for International Studies at Texas State. In March, Ana was commissioned to flm/edit new work with Contradanza Company in Mexico City. On March 19th, Ana presented the Lecture Trans&Inter-disciplinary Art Creation at Centro Nacional de las Artes, Mexico City. Shay Ishii and LeAnne Smith joined Louis Kavouras (UNLV) and Katherine Duke (Erick Hawkins Artistic Director) at the Popular Culture of America Association’s Conference April 17-20. Held in Washington, D.C, the group presented their invited talk: Erick Hawkins and Merce Cunningham, Mirrored Philosophies, Divergent Praxes. Michelle Nance , Kaysie Seitz Brown and Amanda McCorkle performed in Ellen Bartel Contemporary Dance’s Stagnation: (aka) When Is It My Turn Bitch? as part of the Austin Dance Festival April 6 in the Rollins Studio Teatre. Christa Oliver collaborated with Britt Bousman (Professor of Anthropology & Honorary Professor of International Studies) on his “Solutions for Climate Change” presentation on April 23rd at Texas State University. Christa also collaborated with Britt Bousman, Aimee Roundtree, and sixty other Texas State faculty on a global- warming “Big Idea” project. Christa Oliver choreographed Te Ballad of Klook and Vinette at Zach Teatre. Te show runs April 24-May 26. LeAnne Smith served as Artistic Director for Choreographers’ Showcase held April 25-27. Tis concert was dedicated to the founder of the Texas State Dance Program, Dr. Joan Hays, and celebrated her legacy with Studio 178’s new lighting production system generously donated by Ronnye and Chip Cowell. Tis gift is a tribute to Dr. Hays’ many contributions to the TxState Dance Division and her profound infuence on several generations of dance artists. STUDENT ACCOLADES Kaytlin Tabb , Hannah Sudgen , Enrique Garcia , and Dana Mosbey were accepted into the Disney College Program for Fall 19. ALUMNI ACCOLADES Bonnie Cox (B.F.A., 2011) presents a several-year research/performance study: Intervención Urbana - Donde empieza el Norte - Borderlands Dance Project at the border wall of Tijuana, Mexico. [1] Mario Flores (B.F.A., 2015) recently toured Te Story of Cinco de Mayo as a featured dancer with with Calpulli Mexican Dance Company (NYC). Jessica MacFarlane (B.F.A., 2015) successfully completed her thesis at NYU Gallatin School of Individualized Study and received her M.A. this May. Ali Martinez (B.F.A., 2010) was recently featured on the Winter Guard International as a “Valuable Star in Woodlands College Park HS” for her mentorship. DIVISION ACCOLADES WECreateSpaces London, (collaboration between Ana Baer and Heike Salzer) was selected by Te International Film Festival Quinzena de Dança de Almada. It will be screened September 21 – October 13, 2019 in Portugal. [ 2] Parakata , (collaboration between Ana Baer , Rocio Luna, and Natalia Reza) received the Award for Best Dance Film by the Mediawave Film and Music Festival Online Competition. Te flm will be screened at Fort Monostor, Komarom, Hungry on May 02, 2019. In April, La Sabina (collaboration between Ana Baer , Rocio Luna and Joaquin Chas) was selected for the Music Shorts and LGBTQ Shorts Audience Awards Film Festival. WILD-ER-NESS Wild-er-ness is a collaborative work between Texas State University Dance Department Head Michelle Nance , German dancer/choreographer Heike Salzer, and Texas State University dance video-choreographer Ana Baer . Richard D. Hall also composed the music. Wild-er-ness was selected at Te 9th Dance Days Chania Festival. Tis festival will take place from July 15-July 28 in Chania, Crete, Greece. Additionally, this screen dance was selected as an award fnalist at Screen Dance Scotland’s Festival at Perth, Treshold Artspace, Scotland. [ 3] College of Fine Arts and Communication | 11
