STUDENT ACCOLADES The results for the Graphis New Talent 2024 —an international design competition — are as follows: 1 Best of Student Show award 11 Gold awards 38 Silver awards 35 Honorable Mentions Sun City by our very own Gabe Moreno is a selection of photographs made during the El Paso Thanksgiving Parade in 2023, a complex and layered cultural event that features family fun, pink cotton candy, and parade floats flanked by military personnel, tanks from Fort Bliss, and the Border Patrol. As Gab wrote, "...the collection offers a diverse array of portraits depicting the city’s community dynamics. Additionally, it showcases the vernacular architecture and desert mountains that define El Paso." This exhibition is open and is on display at the Center for the Study of the Southwest (CSSW). [4] Art history alumna Angela Gomez is now an Exhibitions Registrar Fellow at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. [5] DEPARTMENT ACCOLADES TXST Galleries hosted a reception for the MFA/CD Thesis Exhibition students. TXST Galleries hosted the 2024 Juried Student Exhibition opening reception. Congratulations to all the amazing students who participated. [6] FACULTY ACCOLADES Ann Burnette delivered a talk on the arguments used by woman suffrage leaders at the program “Selling Suffrage: Words and Symbols to Win the Vote and the ERA.” The occasion was a fundraising event for the Turning Point Suffrage Memorial Association, which is raising money for a national memorial to commemorate the movement that secured women’s right to vote. She was also interviewed as an expert on presidential communication by the Washington Post for a piece entitled, “From ‘my generals’ to ‘my Kevin,’ Trump's preferred possessive can be a sign of affection or control.” Michael Burns was the keynote speaker at The Ohio State University's Academic Leadership Forum. [ 1 ] He guided the provost and every vice president, dean, and chair/director at Ohio State through a workshop focused on best practices for conducting interdisciplinary research. This workshop was based off of the CoSearch program he developed with Marian Houser. Manusheela Pokharel [ 2 ] published “Cancer information overload: Discriminant validity and relationship to sun safe behaviors,” in Patient Education and Counseling . Her article, “Health communication roles in Latino, Pacific Islander, and Caucasian Families: A qualitative investigation” was recently published in the Journal of Genetic Counseling . STUDENT ACCOLADES M.A. students Sean Dyhre , Jorlanditha Austin , and Noah Dawson travelled with Dr. Stephanie Dailey to the Organizational Communication Mini Conference at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. [ 3] C3 The Center for Communication, Collaboration & Creativit y (C3) THE C3 TEAM WILL BE AVAILABLE THROUGHOUT THE SUMMER Do not forget that the C3 Team will be available throughout the summer months to help you with all of your Pre-Award and Post-Award needs. For example, if you are interested in applying for any internal or external grants that are anticipated to be due in the early fall, such as the Research Enhancement Program (REP), and would like to get started creating your narrative and budget, the C3 Team would be more than happy to help you! Additionally, the C3 Team is also available to talk with you about your long-term project and funding goals either via phone, email, or video meeting. In addition to the recorded workshops, C3’s website also includes grant project templates for work plans, letters of intent (LOIs), budgets, and much more! Each of these resources was made specifically with CoFAC faculty and the typical grants that they apply for, in mind.
