The Spring 2024 MFA / CD Thesis Exhibition features a group of designers whose research explores the voices and visions that shape our shared reality. Marinna Cardona’s 1:1 (one-on-one), is an autoethnographic exploration of the hidden feelings and realities of Imposter Phenomenon (IP) within the corporate work environment. Seeking to understand the relationship the researcher has with IP and work, Cardona’s installation reflects on these experiences, feelings of depression, anxiety, and the fear of exposure. Chika Otuata’s Black Girl Happy: Where Dreams and Reality Meet, is a stimulating environment that redefines what happiness looks like for Black women. A realm free from constraints, this dreamscape weaves together the threads of healing, growth, and freedom. A space transformed in celebration of Black women, the installation inspires joy, softness, and a sense of connection within every Black woman. Chenyao Zhu’s Create, Convey, Receive , is about the impact of digital reading on the public's cognitive process. Using tradionally printed materials to present digital media, the installation creates a reading experience that defies common sense, an absurd and counterfactual condition that aims to stimulate one's critical reflection on the act of digital reading.
