Also, the exhibition catalog was published as a 169-page book. Grayson Lawrence and MiHyun Kim facilitated a Design Sprint Workshop with the Amala Foundation, a non-proft organization for youth at risk in Austin on February 23rd. Te Design Sprint is aimed at helping Amala to defne goals, validate assumptions and decide on their digital project roadmap. Mark Menjivar’s solo exhibition Damage Ofcially Noted was on view at the Bazan Public Library in San Antonio. Te exhibition project was part of a collaboration between Contemporary Art Month and the San Antonio Library System. Mark was included in the exhibition Monarchs at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Art in Omaha, NE. Te exhibition closed February 24th and will travel to several venues across the United States. He was included in the exhibition Common Currents at Artpace in San Antonio. He was included in the exhibition Open Source Here at Dock Space Gallery in San Antonio, which was open through March 4th. Mark was also included in the exhibition Big Picture at the Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts. Kathryn Moore’s book, Te Architecture of the Christian Holy Land: Reception from Late Antiquity through the Renaissance (Cambridge University Press, 2017), won the 2018 PROSE award for art history. Jason Reed did an interview with School of Art and Design alum, Christina Houle . Since leaving Texas State Christina has received an MFA from Columbia and an EdM from Harvard. Randall Reid had a solo exhibition at Nuart Gallery in Santa Fe. Te opening reception was Friday, April 6th. Randall Reid and Caprice Pierucci’s works were featured at the Davis Gallery as part of a show entitled, In Depth , from January 20th through February 24th. Soomin Remmler has a new gallery afliation with Art House Press, New York, NY. A number of works will be exclusively available on their Artsy site starting mid-March. Also, Soomin’s work is included in a show Common Currents , a part of series of exhibitions celebrating San Antonio’s tercentennial. Liz Rodda’s solo exhibition, Social Study , opened at PlySpace in Indiana in early April. [4] During this trip, she also co-juried an international flm festival with Jon Derringer, founder of Screen Slate and Technical Director of Electronic Arts Intermix (EAI), and presented an artist lecture at Ball State University, School of Art. Claudia Roeschmann was invited to speak at the Collaborative Processes in Design Education at the Köln International School of Design. Claudia’s pro bono design for Austin Classical Guitar’s season brochure 2017/18 and identity system for Legacy Deo won a GD USA award and were published in the GD USA December annual. Claudia is also the university’s nominee for the TxDLA Award for an Individual’s Outstanding Commitment of Excellence and Innovation in Distance Learning for her DEL conference engagement. Beverly Penn has been chosen as a recipient of a Louis Comfort Tifany Foundation 2017 Biennial Grant. ……Of Warp and Weft , a two-person exhibition by Caprice Pierucci and Charles Hepner opens June 9 from 7-9 at the Davis Gallery, Austin. Caprice completed a corporate commission, “Cloud,” for Castleton Commodities International LLC. Members of Alpha Chi have nominated Sherry Snowden as one of the Alpha Chi Favorite Professors for 2018. Routledge has just published the anthology Art Museums of Latin America: Structuring Representation , co-edited and with an introduction by Gina McDaniel Tarver and Michele Greet (George Mason University). Lana Waldrep-Appl has work featured in Issue 7 of Peripheral Vision Journal of Art and Art Criticism . Lana has work in the upcoming Texas Vignette Art Fair at the Women’s Museum in Fair Park in Dallas. Kellen Walker exhibited a new work, “Bloom, Rise & Break,” at Dock Space Gallery in San Antonio. Te work included performance and interactive installation in the Open Source: Here exhibition, which featured four San Antonio-based artists (including Art & Design faculty Mark Menjivar ). STUDENT ACCOLADES Pedro Moreno’s creative work got accepted to this year’s National Student Show Competition in Dallas. ALUMNI ACCOLADES Clover Cochran , an alum of Fall 1996, has worked in bronze art foundries for 15 years in Texas and New Mexico as a welder and metal chaser. He has a studio in downtown Caldwell. Francesca Heinz was promoted to full time display coordinator for the Friendswood location of Anthropologie. She has continued to do her personal artwork, including a new summer window project using drawing paper, wrapping paper and cellophane wrap. Shawn Meek (Communication Design, 2012) was recently featured in GDUSA’s 2017 American Web Design Awards for his UX/UI design work for Boyan Slat . Tis same work was also honored at the One Club for Creativity Denver 2017 Annual Show. Michael Menchaca’s Vignettes from San Antonio , at Ruiz- Healy Art gallery in Olmos Park introduces new works dedicated to celebrating his memories, his Latino heritage, and vision of San Antonio. [5] Te mixed media pieces connect us with history, folklore, and popular culture. In 2012, Menchaca was one of the youngest artists chosen for the McNay’s Estampas de la Raza exhibit. Splash Coworking is a thriving coworking community located in downtown San Marcos, Texas. Founders Carina Boston Pinales and Pari Sandage , provide space as a service, helping people come out of their home ofce and into the community. SCHOOL ACCOLADES Texas State Galleries’ participation in Creative Time’s Pledges of Allegiance was included in Art News online coverage of the project: “Institutions Across America Fly Trevor Paglen’s ‘Weeping Angel’ Flag.” Te Walleys’ documentation of the Glen Rose Formation concert at the Cave Without a Name is now available.
