College of Fine Arts and Communication | 15 1 Kate Glasheen's YouTube channel entitled Kate Glasheen Coaching 2 Department of Teatre and Dance's production of Signifcant Other 3 Department of Teatre and Dance's production of Mother Courage and Her Children 16 | April & May | College News THEATRE Acting, Musical Theatre, Per formance and Production, Teacher Certif ication in Theatre, Technical Production, & Theatre FACULTY ACCOLADES Kate Glasheen's YouTube channel Kate Glasheen Coaching , focused on vocal and overall wellness for actors, was featured among other creative activities at Texas States Health Scholar Showcase: Health and Resilience in the Heart of Texas. [ 1 ] Professor Glasheen participated in one of two live poster presentation meet-ups to answer questions and discuss health research at Texas State. Michelle Dahlenburg reported and produced a short documentary audio piece, "What's the Story Behind Herman the Singing Plumber?" for KUT Austin's Hi, Who Are You? series. Te piece was featured on air, on social media, and is now online. Chuck Ney , Professor of Directing and Acting, recorded voices for eight characters in Citizens at Last, Texas Women Fight for the Right to Vote . Te production aired March 19 on KLRU. Lecturer of Playwriting Caitlin Turnage’s commission of a short play Lie To Me was performed April 30th and May 1st as part of “Refections: 4 New Short Plays In Conversation with the Recent Past” by St. Phillip’s College. Te night includes a play by Turnage as well a piece by M.F.A. Dramatic Writing Alumni TJ Young . Lauren Lane was interviewed by the Chicago Tribune in an article by Nina Metz about her work as C.C. Babcock in Te Nanny . Ana Martinez gave a talk about her book, Performance in the Zocalo , in the seminar “Transatlantic Teatre and Performance: Golden Age Spain and Pre-Conquest/ Colonial Latin America” at the Graduate Center, City University of New York. Martinez was also a part of the 2021 Spring Puppet Forum: “Puppet and Spirit: Living Gods, Demonic Snakes, Robotic Buddhas, and Migrant Relics,” hosted by the Ballard Institute at the University of Connecticut. Martinez gave a presentation about her upcoming article, “Relics, Artifacts, and Bones: Activating Migrancy’s Traces Trough Performance.” STUDENT ACCOLADES Te Jeremy Torres Lab Teatre successfully led a spring full of shows featuring many Texas State student talents including the piece Grapes and Gnats by Kylie Gutierrez and directed by Martay Whitfeld , Te James W. Price Ten Minute Play Festival, the Jane Doe Teatre Company- Staged Readings featuring works by Ryan Polk , Wallis Brown , and Yasmin Al-Omair-Nuncio and directed by Joshua Roberson , Insha Iqbal , and Mcynize Bartee . Te Caption Torres season also included Bright Half Life by Tanya Barfeld directed by undergraduate Shelby Curry and a devised piece Crimson Prison led by Aidan Hartung , Yasha Alaniz , and William Rose-Hines . Te season was organized and supported by the Jeremy Torres Lab Teatre Board comprised of undergrads Casey Boriskie , Magen Huntley , Lauren Green , Kylie Gutierrez , and Aidan Hartung . Te JTLT is advised by theatre and dance faculty member, Natalie Blackman . Te 2nd James W. Price Ten Minute Play Festival went up in early April featuring student works by Faith Schoop , Mark Beach , Jasmine Aurelio , Ryan Polk , Hunter Ginn , Andrea Olmos Tejado Jr. , and John Parks . Te festival was adjudicated by guest faculty judges and the award for best play critics choice went to Red Card by Andrea Olmos Tejado Jr , and the award for best play audience choice went to Maggie and Gunner Have Done it Again by Faith Schoop . An award for best director was awarded to Henry Rodriguez and an award for best actor was given to Frida Cantu . Gabby Carney , Stage Management - Technical Production, was the stage manager for the frst in-person/ spring 2021 show this semester Signifcant Other . [ 2 ] She also accepted a position at Typhoon Texas as an events coordinator intern. Casey Boriskie was recently on the stage management team for TEDx Texas State, and was one of the ASM's as well as Deck Manager for Spring Awakening . She also completed her Honors Tesis titled "How the Show Goes On: An Exploration of Problem Solving in Stage Management." Casey accepted a stage management internship from Portland Stage in Portland, Maine. MOTHER COURAGE AND HER CHILDREN Te Texas State Department of Teatre and Dance opened their production of Mother Courage and Her Children in April. [ 3] Te production was directed by third year M.F.A. directing candidate Holly Nañes and included undergraduate cast members Daniella Treviño , Hunter Ginn , Javaun Butler , Jonaee’ Davis , Diego Arroyo Aceves , DJ Bartly , Marisa Mendoza , Francisco Escobedo , Zach Masso , Brandon Doan , Dylan Droz , Mariah Epps , and Samatha Drake . 7
