JOURNALISM AND MASS COMMUNICATION Advertising, Digital Media Innovation, Electronic Media , Mass Communication, Journalism, & Public Relations FACULTY ACCOLADES Eraldo "Dino" Chiecchi was awarded the Jack Douglas Award – the group’s highest honor – by the Texas Managing Editors, an organization of the state’s newspaper editors and other journalists, at its annual convention in Galveston on April 15th. Chiecchi was recognized for his contributions to the newspaper industry and for his contributions to the organization, once called the Texas Associated Press Managing Editors. Chiecchi, now in his eighth year of teaching, worked in daily journalism for 33 years, starting as an intern at the El Paso Herald-Post in his hometown. He began his teaching career at the University of Texas at El Paso, his alma mater. Laura Krantz pitched in to help Kym Fox with recruiting efforts at the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association Annual Conference in Fort Worth. [1] Sarah Hernandez was on a panel with Kym Fox titled “You’re Gonna Need an Internship” at the Society of Professional Journalists Region 8 Conference held at Texas A&M University-San Antonio. Kym Fox was one of eight participants selected for the Academic/News Partnership training workshop held in March. The collaboration between the Center for Community News at the University of Vermont and the Texas Center for Community Journalism at Tarleton State University was developed to facilitate partnerships and projects designed to combat news deserts. Vanessa de Macedo Higgins Joyce was invited and presented in April at the Centre for Freedom of Media at the University of Sheffield her project Targeting Threats and Barriers to Journalists in Latin America Kym Fox and Laura Krantz at the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association Annual conference Kelly Kaufhold co-authored a study that was entitled "Power to the People: Soical Media as a Catalyst for Political Participation in Nigeria" Prisca Ngondo, Vanessa Higgins Joyce, and Jennifer Scharlach recieved the Most Innovative Program award 14 | April & May 2023 | College News 1 2 3
