The Texas State Theatre Department opened Big Love by Charles Mee directed by alumna Allison Price in early April. The show included work by Bobcats: Ella Kriegel , Mariah Epps , Savannah Downing , Fallon Goldsmith , Parker Manriquez , Diego Arroyo Aceves , William Ellis , Wade Smith , Rachel Arguello , Daphne Curran , Hannah Wilson , Jennifer Gonzales , Sarah Long, Roark , and Elisa Pedraza Sanchez. STUDENT ACCOLADES Rachel Aho (Lighting Design), Javier Sanchez (Scenic Design), Ollie Payne (Design and Technology), and Angelica Hadiwibowo (Costume Design) were National Finalists at the Kennedy Center American Collegvve Theatre Festival, with Angelica winning a National Championship. Theatre now has had 66 National Finalists and 16 national champions. Luis Diaz was named Student Employee of the Year. The Jeremy Torres Lab Theatre ran the James W. Price Festival on April 25th. Seven student writers were selected out of 60 submissions for the festival and assigned a dramaturg, director, and cast for a staged reading with a live competition component. The winner of Critic’s Choice Award for Best Play went to The Ballad of the Mothman by Insha Iqbal , the Audience Choice Award for Best Play went to Space be Damned by Bran Ivan Castillo , Best Director went to Eric Navarro and Best Actor went to James Cazares . The other playwrights included in the festival were Lalita Garcia , Dexter Murphy , Val Garriga , Matthew Linder , and Bella Barber . The student-run organization the Jeremy Torres Lab Theatre (JTLT) wrapped up their season with performances for Roped In by the Contemporary Theatre workshop class, the James W. Price 10-minute Play Festival, The Rocky Horror Picture Show , the JTLT Cabaret , and Slaughterhouse-five in this spring semester. Emiliano Morales , Ana Monterrubio , and Ricardo Lopez , participated in a staged reading at the Guthrie Theater where they read a new bilingual adaptation of Othello entitled Santiago . The reading was part of the 2023 Shakespeare Association of America (SAA) Conference which took place in Minneapolis. [2] College of Fine Arts and Communication | 23 Eric Navarro was granted a residency in New York for summer 2023 with Theatre 4 The People. He was also recently named Best Director with the James W. Price 10-minute Festival at Texas State University. Kate Salters was accepted to LIU Brooklyn’s MFA TV writer’s studio. Carter Smith , Amber Adamez , and Anika Kougias will be participating in the finals for the Equity Library Theatre of New York Play Festival with monologues they crafted. ALUMNI ACCOLADES Elizabeth Brady makes her Television debut on CBS's F.B.I . Issac Garza premiered his new single-take comedy short film Call Your Mom at the 47th annual Cleveland International Film Festival. Beau Harmon performed on "Saturday Night Live" in a sketch starring Molly Shannon. Tim Heller won the "Ultimate Voice Over Survivor" award at the Voice Over Atlanta Conference. Laura Sky Herman opened the musical Gypsy at the Goodspeed Opera House. Austin Owens Kelly had a reading of their play Obscura (an Exhibiton) at the Boston Court Pasadena New Play Reading Festivial. Betty Marie Muessig directed Urinetown at StageWorks Theatre in Houston. Jada Alston Owens stars as Juliet in Oregon Shakespeare Festival's Romeo and Juliet. The show opened to standing ovations on April 4th. She was interviewed with her co-star. [3] Juliette Redden premiers new musical Dark of the Moon at Rubicon Theatre Compnay. Anna Uzele has been nominated for a Drama Desk Award, an Outer Critics Circle Award, and a Drama League Award for her lead performance in New York, New York .
