To date, much of his research has focused on questions of aesthetics, social function, and ritual use. He published his first book, on art and flagellation, in 2018. He has also written and co-written articles on painting, illuminated manuscripts, sculpture, and early writings on art. Andrew writes articles forthcoming on Catherine of Siena and allegories of navigation. He is currently working on a monograph on Renaissance allegory more generally. An interest in portraiture has led to the identification, with Charlotte Bolland, of works by a Netherlandish artist employed at the Tudor court. This and other research on medieval and Renaissance art have been published in the Journal of the Warburg and Courtauld Institutes , Rivista di storia della miniatura , Word & Image , Mitteilungen des Kunsthistorischen Institutes in Florenz , and The Burlington Magazine . In 2020–21, he was CRIA Fellow at Villa I Tatti, the Harvard University Center for Italian Renaissance Studies in Florence, Italy. He has been an assistant professor in the School of Art and Design at Texas State University since August 2021. #FACULTY SPOTLIGHT hosted 148 students plus teachers that were participating in the TAEA Visual Arts Scholastic Event held in San Marcos.
