24 | April & May | College News THEATRE Acting, Musical Theatre, Per formance and Production, Teacher Certif ication in Theatre, Technical Production, & Theatre FACULTY ACCOLADES Jordan K Andrews was the props assistant for Austin Op- era’s Production of Madam Butterfly at The Long Center for the Performing Arts this April in Austin. Leigh’Ann Andrews will be Assistant Stage Manager at Ballet Austin for Romeo & Juliet and Assistant Stage Manag- er at ZACH Theatre for Waitress this summer. Cheri Prough DeVol designed the scenery and lighting for La finta giardinara (The Pretend Gardener) , directed by Daniel Ellis. One of Mozart’s first operas, written when he was 18, this story was a precursor to his more famous Marriage of Figaro . Produced by the University of Georgia’s Hugh Hodgson School of Music, the show opened at the Fine Arts Theatre on the UGA campus on February 21. [1] Yesenia Garcia Herrington recently collaborated with director Axel Salazar (Film '25) and Valerya Garriga (P&P '24) on Cost of Hope , a short film created for the Advanced Film Directing course. She will also be traveling to New York City for the premiere of Leads , directed by colleague Bryan Poyser , which is set to debut at the 2025 Tribeca Festival. Garcia Herrington appears as part of the cast in Leads . [2] Sarah Maines designed lighting and Michelle Ney designed scenery for Bob and Jean: A Love Story at ZACH Theatre in Austin. Dr. Ana Martínez has a new chapter publication: "Embrac- ing Our Tejanidad: Becoming Comadres Chingonas during Covid-19," co-authored with Mayra Olivares-Urueta, in Nor- ma E. Cantú and Jody A. Marín, eds . ¡Somos Tejanas! Chicana Identity and Culture in Texas (Austin: University of Texas Press, 2025). She also brought and coordinated a successful visit by renowned Mexican experi- mental theatre company Teatro Línea de Sombra to present their lecture and workshop "Bodies, Objects, and Memory on Stage."
