PRESIDENTIAL EXCELLENCE AWARDS The faculty of the College of Fine Arts and Communication excel as teachers, scholars, artists, and leaders. The university’s Presidential Excellence Awards recognize and reward superior accomplishments in teaching, scholarly/creative activity, and service. Seven Presidential Awards are granted each year, with the college claiming three of them in 2023. ROSEANN MANDZIUK Professor Communication Studies ELIZABETH EGER Assistant Professor Communication Studies DALE BLASINGAME Assistant Professor of Practice Journalism and Mass Communication Roseann M. Mandziuk is a University Distinguished Professor in the Department of Communication Studies. She earned her Ph.D. in rhetorical studies from the University of Iowa, her M.S. in communication from Illinois State University, and her B.A. in speech and in English from Wayne State University. She has been a member of the faculty at Texas State University since 1987. Roseann’s research focuses upon images of women. She has co-authored a scholarly book about the rhetoric of Sojourner Truth, and served as editor of Women’s Studies in Communication . Elizabeth Eger obtained her Ph.D. at the University of Colorado Boulder where she also received graduate certificates in critical theory and in women and gender studies. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in Organizational Communication, Qualitative Methods, Gender and Communication, and Work, Identity, and Difference. She won the 2022 Anita Taylor Outstanding Published Article Award. She also received an Ethnography Division Early Career Award, and an Organizational Communication Division Outstanding Teaching Award from the NCA. Dale Blasingame received the 2017 Presidential Excellence Award for Teaching. Blasingame is a part of the Digital Media Innovation faculty, and he teaches courses that introduce students to different aspects of how technology is changing journalism, media, and marketing. Some of his classes include Advanced Social Media and Analytics, Drone Storytelling, Web Design and Publishing, and Fundamentals of Digital and Online Media. In 2017, he developed the SJMC's first Study in America course. Before transitioning to Texas State, Blasingame was a television news producer.
