FACULTY AWARDS JOHANNA "JOEY" FAUERSO Professor Art and Design JASON KWAK Professor Music MICHAEL DEVLIN Associate Professor Journalism and Mass Communication Joey Fauerso is an artist and 2022 Guggenheim fellow in the Fine Arts. Her work consists mostly of painting, drawing, video, and installation addressing issues of gender, humor and family. Recently her work has been exhibited at the Visual Arts Center at The University of Texas, Bemis Center for Contemporary Art, Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, and the Drawing Center in New York. Fauerso has been the recipient of multiple grants including a 2022 Guggenheim Fellowship, a 2020 Joan Mitchell Grant for Painters and Sculptors, and a 2021 Sustainable Arts Foundation grant. Dr. Kwak is the keyboard area coordinator in the School of Music. He has received the top prize in many piano competitions including the Atlanta Steinway Society Competition, Handok Piano Competition, Southern Keyboard Competition, Atlanta Music Club, and the Clara Wells Piano Competition. His international appearances include performances with the Jeju Philharmonic Orchestra, Daegu Symphony Orchestra, The University of Texas Wind Ensemble, Amherst Symphony, Gangnam Symphony Orchestra and the Rocky Ridge Orchestra. He was a 2021 inductee into the Steinway and Sons Teacher Hall of Fame. Mike Devlin is an associate professor of advertising. He holds a Ph.D. in mass communication from the University of Alabama, and an M.A. in mass communication and a B.A. in electronic media communications from Texas Tech University. Prior to earning his Ph.D., Mike worked as a media designer and multimedia specialist in Austin. He currently teaches Advertising Copywriting and Layout. He was the recipient of the 2018 Early Career Teaching Excellence Award from the Advertising Division of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication. In 2007, the Texas State University System created the Regents’ Professor Award; Jason Kwak is the college’s 3rd recipient. In 2018, they created the Regents’ Teacher Award; Michael Devlin is our 4th recipient.
