FACULTY AWARDS Cont inued Distinguished Professor Emeritus is reserved for a select group of retirees; Roger Colombik, Beverly Penn, and Sandy Rao are the college’s 19th, 20th, and 21st recipients. All three were Fulbright Scholars and cumulatively taught here for 95 years. ROGER COLOMBIK Professor Art and Design BEVERLY PENN Professor Art and Design SANDY RAO Professor Journalism and Mass Communication Roger Colombik was a professor in the School of Art and Design who taught sculpture. Roger’s sculpture was featured in the 2016 West Texas Triangle , an exhibition series with concurrent solo exhibitions at five museums. His socially engaged-based projects are often undertaken in milieus where traditions and cultural heritage have collided head- on with westernization and government malfeasance. The projects utilize contemporary formats that include installation, large-scale photography, publications and intervention. The Fulbright Scholar Program, CEC Artslink, and Texas State's Research Enhancement Program have supported Roger’s projects . Beverly Penn was a professor in the School of Art & Design. She represented the state of Texas in the exhibition Women to Watch 2018 at the National Museum of Women in the Arts. She was selected by the Texas Commission on the Arts as the 2017 State of Texas 3D Artist of the Year. Beverly was awarded a 2017 Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Artist Award. Her work is included in the collections of the National Museum of Women in the Arts, Yale University, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Cooper Hewitt Museum, and the Moody Foundation. She was the recipient of numerous fellowships including a Rockefeller Foundation residency in Bellagio, Italy and a Fulbright Fellowship in Barcelona, Spain. Dr. Sandy Rao was a professor in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication and honorary professor of international studies. She served as the graduate advisor for the master’s program in mass communication, assistant dean of the Graduate College, and a faculty senator. As a Fulbright Scholar, she taught for a semester at Manipal University in India. She earned her Ph.D. degree at Bowling Green State University, Ohio. Before coming to the United States, Dr. Rao worked as a journalist and public relations professional in India. Dr. Rao has received numerous awards and honors for research, teaching and service.
