- NOVEMBER - DECEMBER - JANUARY As president, Roseanne Mandziuk presents the keynote address at the NCA conference ; over a dozen Communication Studies faculty present their research at the annual National Communication Association (NCA) conference winning 3 Top Paper Awards and one Outstanding Published Article Award; Theatre presents a sold-out production of Into the Woods ; KTSW students win 5 awards at the College Broadcasters National Student Electronic Media Convention; Courtney Come wins grant from the Art for Justice fund. Michael Ippolito’s Violin Concerto premiered by the Florida Orchestra; Christa Oliver’s choreography is featured in ZACH Theatre’s A Christmas Carol ; students Elma Garcia and Sophia Gonzalez are finalists in the Vargas Mariachi Extravaganza National Vocal Competition; the VocaLibre Holiday Concert and A Merry-Achi Christmas enjoy near sold-out performances; with $100,000 in funding, awarded to eleven faculty, the college ranks second in the university’s annual Research Enhancement Grant program Kaysie Seitz Brown receives the Honor Award from the Texas Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance ; Journalism and Mass Communication conducts professional development tour in New York City; the TXST Art Galleries win a National Endowment for the Arts challenge grant; Bethany Johnson earns a Pollock- Krasner Foundation grant; Bryan Poyser’s short film Don’t You Go Nowhere wins multiple awards; Eugene Lee stars in the national tour of A Soldier’s Play . - MAY - JUNE - JULY Over 60 graduate students earn their master’s degree and more than 600 students earn their undergraduate degree; Music hosts their 23rd Feria del Mariachi; Ana Baer’s video dances screen in Mexico, Portugal, Cuba, and the United Kingdom; the Austin American-Statesman’s one-year anniversary special section of the Uvalde school shooting is written entirely by TXST students; alum Anna Uzele is nominated for a Drama Desk Award, an Outer Critics Circle Award, and a Drama League Award for her lead performance in New York, New York . Our National Student Advertising Competition team places second nationally , their 2nd Silver medal in the last 4 years; now featuring participants from 44 countries, Music hosts the 13th Texas State International Piano Festival, with 42 participants, taught by 13 world-renowned faculty, and featuring concerts with the Central Texas Philharmonic; three young alumni perform at the Tony Awards, the 6th straight year that at least one Bobcat has performed in the awards show; all summer camps fully return. Over 150 students participate in Study Abroad programs in London/Stratford (Theatre), Florence/Rome (Art), London/ Hamburg (SJMC), Japan (SJMC), London/Paris (Music/ Communication Studies), and Rome/Vienna (Music/ Communication Studies); funded by the Knight Foundation, SJMC hosts their 6th PhDigital Bootcamp with 22 fellows from across the U.S.; college closes its season with 176 ticketed performances attended by more than 27,000 people; the college also streamed 245 performances that had over 43,500 views. 2023 35 College of Fine Arts and Communication
