C3 The Center for Communication, Collaboration & Creativit y (C3) BLACK & LATINO PLAYWRIGHTS CONFERENCE AWARDED $50K GRANT With C3’s help, Eugene Lee’s Black and Latino Playwrights Conference [pictured] was awarded a $50,000 National Endowment for the Humanities, Humanities Access Matching Grant to expand and support future humanities programming and begin building an endowment fund. Thirty theatre students, including Mateo Ybarra , Vice President of theatre fraternity Alpha Psi Omega, are rallying to support the conference and help raise $25k to match the first deadline of the grant on April 30, 2017. A robust crowdfunding campaign will be released on the TXST crowdfunding site. RESEARCH ON THE ROCKS Faculty on the C3 Advisory Board organized an informal happy hour. Each month, faculty will meet on a Friday to network and talk about their own research and creative activities. January spotlighted Nico Schuler (Music) who discussed international research and funding opportunities in Germany. February will spotlight Ana Baer and Vlasta Silhavy who will tell their story about how to piecemeal a research project by applying for multiple funding sources. Dean John Fleming will also be spotlighted later this semester to discuss book publishing. Mark your calendars for February 24, March 31, and April 28. HEALTH SCHOLAR SHOWCASE SUCCESS Dr. Melinda Villagran (Communication Studies professor and Director of the new Office of Translational Health Research) and her team successfully held the first Health Scholar Showcase on February 10. Over 170 healthcare administrators and professionals, members of the community, faculty and staff attended.
