prestigious Helen Hayes Award for his role as lead actor in Arena Stage’s production of Two Trains Running . Will Lewis had a peer-reviewed article published in the GPS: Global Performance Studies . "Te Media Afects of Political Performance: Unmasking the Real and the Now" examines the efcacy of political performance in contemporary mediatized societies. Case studies include Peter Brook’s Marat/Sade, the music video "Tis is America" by rapper Childish Gambino and the use of social media as a site of performance during the Occupy Wall Street protests. Michael Maresca was an invited Speaker at the TEDx event on the Texas State campus; his talk focused on “One Voice and the Pattern that Could Change Everything.” Michael was also invited to teach at the Tennessee Tespian Conference and at the Texas Tespian Educators Conference. Little Fish Teatre in San Pedro, California selected and produced Canvas , by Andrew John Heinrich , as part of their Pick of the Vine Festival. Andrew earned his MFA in May of 2018 and currently works at Texas State University as a lecturer in the Department of Teatre and Dance. STUDENT ACCOLADES Hana M. Curry (B.F.A., Performance and Production) is the recipient of the Martin Luther King Poetry Contest Scholarship. She performed her poem on January 22 at the Martin Luther King Celebration in the LBJ Student Center. Naomi Davis (B.F.A., Performance and Production) and Jose Valdez are regional fnalists for the Gary Garrison National Ten Minute Play Award for their ten-minute plays Steampig and La Chica , respectively. Mariah Epps (B.F.A., Production & Performance) starred in Te Days of Rodinal and Film , a two-woman show at the FronteraFest Short Fringe in Austin. Five theatre students took home seven of the awards from the Southwest USITT conference in January. Sam Knoll (B.F.A., Technical Production) won the Award for Achievement in Non-Realized Costume Design, Alexander Stearns (M.F.A., Costume Design) won the Award for Excellence in Costume Design, and Carlos Nine (M.F.A., Lighting Design) won the Award for Achievement in Lighting Design. Elizabeth Wood (B.F.A., Technical Production) won the Award for Excellence in Scenic Design and an overall award which gives her free registration to the national conference in March. Ana Belen Cobos (B.F.A., Technical Production) won the Award for Excellence in Costume Technology, as well as one of two top prizes which gives her a free ride to the national conference. Senior musical theatre student Daniel Z. Miller (’19) is premiering his new musical Dylan Spencer’s Cat Obedience School , on March 9-10. Te musical was developed as part of the musical theatre program’s Composer Track and will be directed by M.F.A. Directing candidate Tom Delbello (’19). Daniel’s script won the 2019 Kennedy Center American College Teatre Festival Musical Teatre Award, and as part of this award, will receive an industry workshop. Connor Pate’s play Belfry Fat is a regional fnalist for the John S. Cauble Outstanding Short Play award. Connor is a graduate student in the M.F.A. Dramatic Writing program. Katie Svatek’s play Te Days of Rodinal and Film is a regional fnalist for the John S. Cauble Outstanding Short Play award. In addition, her full-length play Dust is a national fnalist for the National Partners in American Teatre best new play award. Katie is a B.F.A. major in the Performance and Production program. B.F.A. Production & Performance majors Lilith Tijerina , Sarah Tijerina , Jayden Reider , and Giovan Lugo (B.F.A., Teatre Teacher Certifcation) co-founded (Re) Appropriate, a non-illusory theatre troupe based in San Marcos. Tey successfully produced their frst show, Fill the Seats with People Who Laugh At Jokes Like Tat , consisting of 30 plays in 1 hour. Te show starred B.F.A. Performance and Production majors Natalie Cantu , Madison Miller , Rachel Ditzig , and Mariah College of Fine Arts and Communication | 15
