Directing candidate Holly Nanes 14 | January & February | College News THEATRE Acting, Musical Theatre, Per formance and Production, Teacher Certif ication in Theatre, Technical Production, & Theatre FACULTY ACCOLADES Te feature flm Bull , co-written and executive produced by Assistant Professor, Johnny McAllister , will play at the SXSW Film Festival in March. It will also premiere nationwide the same week. Linda Nenno Breining directed the play, Tey Serve Brisket in Paradise , by Sandy Maranto for the Long Fringe New Play Festival at Ground Floor Teatre in Austin. In January, Kate Glasheen was Siobhan in Te Public Teater of San Antonio's Production of Te Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time . Phillip Owen is the associate sound designer on the production of Camp David at the Alley Teatre in Houston. Te show opens on Feb. 20 and will run until March 15th. [ 1 ] Caitlin Turnage’s play What We Scream Underwater When No One Can Hear Us is participating in Region 6 of the Kennedy Center Amercian College Teatre Festival. STUDENT ACCOLADES B.F.A. acting majors Emily Absher and Malik James have been invited to join the pool of 16 students who will participate in the University of California at San Diego’s fnal on-campus callback. B.F.A. Performance & Production sophomore, Dylan Droz , is currently playing Eddie McCuen in Te EmilyAnn Teatre’s production of Te Musical Comedy Murders of 1940 , running through March 3. He is also in rehearsals for Blood Brothers opening at the EmilyAnn on April 3rd in Wimberley. Film Production major, Hanna Hurd wrote and directed a short flm titled Method . Tis flm stars Linda Nenno Breining (Texas State Acting Faculty) and Emily Carruth (Performance and Production major). Method has been chosen in two flm festivals including one in Colorado Springs and one in West Texas. Te trailer for the flm can be viewed here . [ 2 ] B.F.A. Acting Major, Malik James has made the small pool of candidates for the fnal callback at Yale University. M.F.A. lighting designer, Austin Kelm was the assistant lighting designer for Janis Joplin now playing at ZACH Teatre in Austin. B.F.A. Performance & Production Major Matthew Kennedy performed in A Christmas Carol: A Rockin' Family Musical at ZACHTeatre in Austin. M.F.A. lighting designer Andrew McDaniels designed the lighting for the Macon Civic Club Show: Light My Fire at the Macon Grand Opera House in Georgia assisted by M.F.A. lighting designer MacKenzie Mulligan . Blu by Virginia Grise opened to packed houses in the PSH Foundation Teatre in February. [ 3] Blu features Soledad and her partner, Hailstorm, as they redefne family on their own terms after the death of their eldest son in Iraq. Te production was directed by M.F.A. Directing candidate Holly Nanes with Lighting Design by M.F.A. Lighting Designer Austin Kelm . Te set was designed by M.F.A. Set Designer Gary Tornsberry . Te production stage manager was Casey Boriskie . Cast in the show were: Emma Espada , Ashely Woolridge , Ian Deane, Raul Ramirez , William Hoss Abete , and Lisette Sandoval-Perez . Tird year M.F.A. directing candidate Allison Price has been hired to direct Orvieto Operas production of Prima la musica e poi le parole by Antonio Salieri and serve as opera faculty from May 30-June 22. B.F.A. Performance and Production major Sydney Quanz opened and directed Stupid F***ing Bird written by Aaron Posner in the Texas State 209 Lab Space mid- February. Te show was completely student-produced thanks to the eforts of Lydia Landrum (Assistant Director), Dovie Stem (PSM), Brianna Resendez (Production Assistant) and the cast. Te cast included: Max Otremba (Conrad), Julieanna Stolley (Nina), Riley Edwards (Trigorin), Britain Stibora (Dev), Elizabeth Belfast (Mash) and Diego Huazano (Sorn). WATER BY THE SPOONFUL Sarah EC Maines designed the lighting for Water by the Spoonful at Stages Repertory Teatre in Houston. In Water by the Spoonful , Elliott, an Iraq War veteran and former addict, fnds solace in an online chat room as he struggles to reconnect with his mother - herself a former heroin addict. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, Water by the Spoonful is an uplifting and heartfelt meditation on broken lives, forgiveness, and the strength to carry on. Te show ran from February 7 - 23. Next, she will be designing three productions at ZACH Teatre in Austin in the coming months: Roe , Reunion 85 , and Te Sound of Music . She has also recently been contracted to design Ann starring Holland Taylor at Pasadena Playhouse. College of Fine Arts and Communication | 15
