ART AND DESIGN Art , Art Education, Art Histor y, Communication Design, Photography, & Studio Art 2 | January & February | College News FACULTY ACCOLADES Jennifer Ling Datchuk [ 1 ] presented a lecture about her work "The Personal in Porcelain" to Cranbrook on January 13. She was also a guest critic for the ceramic graduate students. She is included in a group exhibition curated by Strange Fire artist collective at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN. Shannon Faseler was named a Fulbright Arctic Initiative Scholar Alternate. M12 Studio's ( Margo Handwerker ) Black Hornet (2009–2013) is currently featured in the exhibition High Visibility: On Location in Rural America and Indian Country at the Plains Art Museum in Fargo, North Dakota until May 30. MiHyun Kim was invited to present her project, "Stories Become Data: How Stories and Visual Narrative can be Collected as Data through Co- Creation Processes" at ADADA (International Conference for Asia Digital Art and Design) + Cumulus (International Association of Universities and Colleges of Art, Design and Media). The virtual conference was hosted by the School of the Arts at the Tokyo Metropolitan University. She was also invited to contribute a book chapter about her ongoing project, "Stories Become Data." The chapter will be included in the book Story Work for a Just Future: Co-Creating Diverse Knowledges and Methods Within an International Community of Practice published by the Smithsonian Institution Scholarly Press in fall of 2021. In March 2020, Jessica Mallios was accepted and participated in the photographic residency program Ströndin in Seydisfjördur, Iceland. In April and May 2020, she was accepted in the artist residency program Skaftfell: Center for Visual Art in Seydisfjördur, Iceland. In December 2020, she was included in the Jennifer Ling Datchuk with her work, 100 Years, 100 Women Elvia Perrin's work featured in the In Good Company Group Show at the Wally Workman Gallery Samantha Chapman's integrated brand identity campaign, My Friends and Me, The ABC’s 1 2 3 publication Artpace at 25: 25th Anniversary Publication , a 272-page volume of never-before-published curatorial essays and full-color images of every exhibition created through its International Artist-in-Residence program from 2008 to 2019. Elvia Perrin will be artist presenter and panelist for Professional Practices Symposium, University of Texas at Tyler this February. Her work was also in the Think Ink , group exhibition, at Tiemann Gallery and In Good Company Group Show , at Wally Workman Gallery through January. [ 2 ] Soomin Remmler’s work “Where the Earth Meets the Sky” was featured in the newly launched newspaper Konnect , December 5th, 2020, 1st issue. Soomin’s work “Maroon Bells 2020” was accepted into a juried exhibition Explore this! 17 held by Colored Pencil Society of America and on their website from January 2021 till January 2022. Genaro Solis Rivero’s "Drinks on US" logo for a self-promotional campaign was published in LogoLounge 12 . Liz Rodda and Annie Miller have work in Staycation at MASS Gallery in Austin until March 14th. Liz Rodda was selected to represent Austin in the inaugural UNESCO international Media Arts collaboration. This involved producing a multi- channel video in collaboration with artist Biin Shen of Changsha, China. The resulting project was exhibited virtually at Braga Media Arts in Portugal and will continue to travel internationally. Liz, along with a curated group of filmmakers, has been commissioned to create a new film using 1970 footage from the Dallas affiliate newsrooms archive. The resulting films are part of the exhibition 1970 Reimagined that will debut at Dallas Museum of Art. Claudia Roeschmann was invited to present at the virtual Online Education Berlin (OEB) Conference on December 3, on the integration of technology and humanity in reference to her Design across Cultures course offered with the universities from the Netherlands, Italy, Uruguay, and Japan. The New Ventures Competition proposal was selected as part of the university’s Big Ideas initiative Round II fundraising opportunities for 2021. College of Fine Arts and Communication | 3 Omari Souza will be collaborating with Texas State University’s Common Experience to do a follow-up to The State of Black Design conference. This two-day conference, The State of Black Design: Past, Present, and Future, will be held April 9 - 10th. Gina McDaniel Tarver’s paper titled “Transparency and Ecocritical Art: Seeing Art History through (to) Alicia Barney’s Yumbo” has been published online in Seminário Internacional: Contra o Cânone: Arte, Feminismo(s), e Ativismos Séculos XVIII a XXI / International Seminar: Against the Canon: Art, Feminism(s) Activisms XVIII to XXI Centuries, Mercosul Biennial Foundation. STUDENT ACCOLADES Communication Design students Katia Mena , Edith Bustos , Andrea Raines , and Samantha Chapman were winners in the 2020 AIGA flux student design competition and have had their work published online. LogoLounge book 12 had a write-up about Genaro Solis Rivero’s Trademark Design course, showcasing 14 adjudications from ComDes students. LogoLounge is an international professional design showcase. The students published were Jazmine Beatty , Samantha Chapman , Allison Satterfield , Jeromy Lund , Megan Myles , Cynthia Murray , Caro Martinez , Robert Warrix , Joanne Van , Grace Hayes , and Abigail Teets .
