DANCE Dance Studies, Per formance & Choreography, Single Teaching Certif ication, & Dual Teaching Certif ications FACULTY ACCOLADES The Bloomsbury Handbook of Dance and Philosophy edited by Rebecca Farinas and Julie Van Camp was published early 2021 and includes contributions by Ana Baer Carillo and Kaysie Seitz Brown : "Considerations on Site-Specific Screendance Production," and "Falling Up: An Explication of a Dance" respectively. [ 1 ] Michelle Nance and Ana Baer received the City of San Marcos Arts Commission Award to produce the first Interdisciplinary Festival celebrating the creative voices of the LatinX, Hispanic and African Diasporas, during the month of June. The festival was also selected for the Big Idea Initiative under the umbrella of Human Expression. In collaboration with Dr. Lynn Ledbetter , Ana Baer , Scott Vandenburg , Brandon Gonzalez , Merge Dance Company, dancers and singers from London, Germany, New York, Los Angeles, and Greece, Michelle Nance directed a Covid dance film titled Finding Freedom in Restraint . The film was screened at an art space in Athens, Greece, and in dance studios in Germany, West Yorkshire, England, London, England, and Los Angeles. Christa Oliver’s "My piece" was selected to be featured in the Human Condition Digital Exhibition in the Brown State of Mind Digital Exhibition . [ 2 ] Associate Professor Nicole Wesley was invited by the Berkner Dance Department to teach a Professional Development Master class for Richardson ISD in Dallas. Nicole was commissioned to set an original contemporary work by Pivotal Academy of Dance in Buda for their elite dance company, Vitality. She taught recruitment classes for Arlington Heights High School in Fort Worth and at Canyon High School in New Braunfels, as well as, a master class for the company, Psalm 142, a dance group directed by Texas State Dance alumna Angeline Fletcher. She attended a workshop entitled Building an Anti-racist Dance Classroom hosted by Dance Education Laboratory (DEL) January 9th-10th. Nicole was nominated for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Service for 2021. ALUMNI ACCOLADES Daniel Garcia (B.F.A. 2020) was recently accepted into the graduate program in Dance at Texas Woman’s University.
