1 Ana Baer's screendance, Ixchel 2 Michelle Nance's master class for Psalm 149 Dance Company in New Braunfels 3 Tammy Fife was inducted into the Texas Dance Educators Hall of Fame 10 | January & February | College News DANCE Dance Studies, Per formance & Choreography, Single Teaching Certif ication, & Dual Teaching Certif ications FACULTY ACCOLADES During late January, Ana Baer flmed her latest screendance (untitled) with dance artist Rocio Luna at Lago de Cuitzeo in Michoacán, México. In February, her piece Ixchel [1] was awarded an Honorable Mention for Best Editing by the Athens International Monthly Art Film Festival, in Athens, Greece and Best Experimental Short Film by Gothamite Film Festival, NYC. Her pieces Imágenes de una Realidad and Ixchel were selected for upcoming screenings by the Colortape International Festival in Brisbane Australia, additionally, Ixchel was selected by Te Black Panther International Short Film Fest in Delhi, India. CIM TEYA, directed by Kaysie Seitz Brown , was invited to perform at the adjudicated Kaleidoscope dance showcase as part of the TAHPERD (Texas Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance) 98th Annual Convention in Arlington, TX on December 3. Tey performed the work of guest choreographer and Texas State Assistant Professor of Dance, Torens Johnson, Past, Present, Future, and the Step inspired piece, "Symmetry/Asymmetry" choreographed by the dancers in collaboration with Kaysie. On Dec. 4th, Kaysie also presented a workshop titled “Integration of Dance & Design Engineering” at the TAHPERD conference. Brandon Gonzalez will be acting as host to bring the Texas Dance Improvisation Festival (TDIF) to the Texas State Department of Teatre and Dance in Fall 2022. TDIF is an annual three-day event with an international reach and is organized by Texas artists to inspire, challenge, and build diverse improvisational dance communities. Te festival welcomes all improvisational dance practices and features a variety of improvisational dance techniques, methods, styles, and contexts. Te selected guest artist, Darrell Jones will be highlighted at the festival as well as teach master classes in the Department of Teatre and Dance. Darrell Jones's artistic research has found its focus through a conversation between his postmodern dance training and the voguing aesthetic, and revolves around training counter rituals aimed at releasing enculturated oppressions. In January, Michelle Nance was invited to teach a master class in Dance Improvisation for Psalm 149 Dance Company in New Braunfels. [2] Her screendance collaboration with Ana Baer and Heike Salzer entitled: WECreate Spaces – Limerick , was selected for the COCO Dance Festival in Trinidad and Tobago (Oct. 30-31, 2021), the 6th edition of IMARP (Mostra Internacional de Dance Imagens Em Movimento) in Brazil (Dec. 13-18, 2021) and the Tokyo Documentary Film Festival (Dec. 11-17, 2021). Christa Oliver is choreographing Te 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee at St. Edward's University. Te show runs February 24th-March 6th at the Mary Moody Northern Teatre. Associate Professor Nicole Wesley co-directed the 2021 COCO Dance Festival featuring the work of major international choreographers such as Reggie Wilson and Rena Butler, both from the US, as well as T&T contemporary visual artist Akuzuru, who has an international reputation for her site-specifc performances. Nicole performed Scenarios at the Sans Souci Festival at CU Boulder entitled Dancing on the Edge of Cinema. In tandem with her Dance Curriculum lab component, Nicole has organized another teaching residency and partnership with Goodnight Middle School in San Marcos. Since early October, students of the curriculum class have been teaching all genres of dance to middle schoolers including World Dance Forms and Improvisation. Nicole was invited to be an External Reviewer for a Contemporary Dance Concert at BYU in January. She helped coordinate the 2022 Texas Association for Teachers in Dancing (TATD) Mini Convention hosted at Texas State and taught a master class to dance studio owners and student teachers at the convention. HALL OF FAME Tammy Fife was ofcially inducted into the Texas Dance Educators Hall of Fame on January 7, 2022. Te award was in recognition of Tammy Fife's dedication to the Dance Education community. [3] Tammy wrote the curriculum and teaching the course, Dance Team Directing at Texas State University. Tis was the frst university to include this course in the degree plan for Dance Education majors. Several universities have now followed Texas State University in preparing dance education majors to direct high school dance teams. Tammy also wrote a textbook, Teaching Dance in Public School. Tis textbook was the frst to align with the Texas Education Agency requirements for Dance 1. Tammy was the 3rd Director of the Texas State University Strutters.
