College of Fine Arts and Communication | 15 1 Current and former Texas State students who worked on the short flm, Don't You Go Nowhere 2 Forest Van Dyke has been cast as Banzai in the national tour of Te Lion King 3 Joey Marie Urbana in the FX series Snowfall 16 | January & February | College News THEATRE Acting, Musical Theatre, Per formance and Production, Teacher Certif ication in Theatre, Technical Production, & Theatre FACULTY ACCOLADES Elizabeth Buckley and Te Stars at Night documentary flm crew completed the frst stage of principal photography in December, shooting a time lapse of Te White Shaman Mural, an ancient rock art mural that has been the focus of study for over 20 years by Texas State's Dr. Carolyn Boyd . Texas State alumni involved in the project include Ryan Sultemeier , producer and Will Fitzpatrick , flmmaker. Cheri Prough DeVol received the Cleveland Critic Circle Teatre Award for the Best Scenic Design of 2021 for her work on Broadway Bound , by Neil Simon. Directed by Bill Roudebush and starring Tony nominated and Obie award winner Austin Pendleton as Eugene’s grandfather Ben. Te show played September 9th -Oct 3rd at Beck Center for the Performing Arts in Lakewood, Ohio. Carlos Estrada , has been nominated for the Judy Irola Student Heritage Award by the ACS (American Society of Cinematographers) for his work as Director of Photography on El Fantasma , a recent graduate thesis flm at UT Austin. Kaitlin Hopkins presented on Stress Reduction for Artists and Educators at the Texas Tespian Educator Conference and for Independent Schools Association of the Southwest Fine Arts Directors Conference. In addition, she did a two-part podcast for Breaking Broadway with Kerry Butler. Bryan Poyser wrote and directed a new short flm entitled Don't You Go Nowhere starring acclaimed Austin- based musicians Mac Mcintosh, Taméca Jones and the Michael Hale Trio in December. Te short was fscally sponsored by the Austin Film Society and was shot entirely at the legendary music club C-Boys in Austin. Several current and former Texas State students worked on the flm, both in front of and behind the camera, including Elisabeth Ledoux , Dizzy Harrison , Candice Bell , Tyra Williams , Ariel O’Gwin , and alumni Drake Howard and Taylor Wright . [1] STUDENT ACCOLADES Multiple Texas State Playwrights advanced to region 6 of the Kennedy Center American College Teatre Festival which hosts its digital festival in February. Te talented writers include Mkayla Edwards , Jaiden Compuesto , Zach Masso , Kylie Gutierrez , Devon Khalsa , Wallis Brown , and Eric Dekowski . Kylie Gutierrez , was featured in American Teatre Magazine in an article about her apprenticeship with Penfold Teatre Company in Austin. Caleb Hernandez had his photo recently published on the Vogue Italia website. ALUMNI ACCOLADES Blair Baldwin and Marie Muessig opened Te Little Mermaid at Teatre Under the Stars in early December. Stephen Brower performed at 54 Below as part of Boy Bands Vs. Girl Groups in February. Julia Cassandra was cast as Anna in Frozen and Belle in Disney Dreams, An Enchanted Classic on the Disney Wonder cruise ship. Michael Daleo won Best Cinematography-Documentary Short from the Culver City Film Festival 2021. Forest Van Dyke has been cast as Banzai, one of the crazy Hyenas, in the national tour of Te Lion King . [2] Liz Fisher and Carl Gonzales joined the Penfold Teatre Company artistic team. Laura Sky Herman completed her directorial residency with UCLA’s Art and Global Health Center. Laura also started rehearsals as Alana in Rock and Roll Man a new musical about the life of Alan Freed. Matthew Holcomb was in an episode of the Fox series 9-1-1 that aired in December. Jimmy Moore was named artistic director at the Classic Teatre in San Antonio. #ALUMNI Colin Trudell booked “Emmet Otter” in Jim Henson’s Emmet Otter’s Jug- Band Christmas at the New Victory theatre in NYC. Performances ran in December and were directed and choreographed by Christopher Gatelli. Colin also just completed shooting an episode of Law and Order SVU . [3] Christine Tucker was in Netfix original series Country Comfort with Katherine McPhee. Joey Marie Urbana appears in the FX series Snowfall . She plays the recurring role of Aunt Xiamara. [3] Rachel Webb performed at 54 Below with Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss- writers of the hit musical Six for an evening of entertainment in early February. Rachel Webb and Cameron Sirian performed with Kristin Chenoweth in her concert Christmas at the Met . DEPARTMENT ACCOLADES Texas State Teatre Department opened their production of Macbeth in late early February. Te production was directed by third year M.F.A. directing candidate Martin J. Asprey and included lighting and projection design by Brydon Lidle . Te cast included Tap Rudra , Jordan Faniel , Grant Goodnight , Alejandro Uridales , Elena Heine , Vivian Noble , Raleigh Turner , Mallory Keeler , Miranda Marquez , Devon Khalsa , Seth Lewis , Nick Dondero , Zach Masso , Tyler Jordan Wesley , Ricardo Lopez Montilla , and Llailan Bennet . Sarah Long served as the head electrician with Alekzandre Bracken as the assistant head electrician. Hannah Wilson served as the production stage manager. 7
