Brandon Gonzalez adjudicated for the College Dance Film Fest, which will be held at The Patterson- Appleton Arts Center Festival Hall in Denton. Brandon presented a masterclass on choreographing with objects at University of Texas at Austin on Feb 9th. He presented at the Long Beach Contact Improvisation Festival at California State University Long Beach and taught a workshop on the fundamentals of Contact Improvisation at First Street Studio in Austin. Kaysie Seitz Brown attended the TAHPERD (Texas Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance) 99th Annual Convention in Corpus Christi. While there, her TXST dance company, CIM TEYA, performed two works at the adjudicated dance concert Kaleidoscope: Adhesion , Activation , Aggregation , choreographed by guest choreographer Amanda McCorkle , and Lost (and Found) in the Losses choreographed by guest choreographer Misti Galvan on Dec. 2, 2022. Brown also presented two workshops: “Exploring Erick Hawkins’ Choreographic Philosophy of 1st/ 2nd Function Art” and “Social Justice through Somatic Agency to Young Children,” co-presented with Amanda McCorkle. [2] Kaysie was presented with TAHPERD's second-highest award, The Honor Award, in recognition of excellence in teaching and contributions to leadership and promotion of student involvement in the professions of HPERD. Christa Oliver 's piece, Chained To The Floor, But My Spirit Is Free , is featured in Young, Gifted, and Black: A Black History Month Celebration of Excellence in the Arts. College of Fine Arts and Communication | 13 DEPARTMENT ACCOLADES "Young, Gifted & Black: A Black History Month Celebration" will entail an evening of performances including songs, monologues and scenes directed, produced and performed by over 30 Black Texas State artists in the Department of Theatre and Dance. The event is at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 26 at the Performing Arts Center Recital Hall. [3] ALUMNI ACCOLADES Kaysie Seitz Brown provided a professional development refresher workshop for Round Rock ISD arts integration elementary school dance teachers. Two TXST alumni: Rebekah Balli and Sierra Anderson , are teaching at two of these schools. Kaysie Seitz Brown is an educator, choreographer, and dancer based in Austin, and an Associate Professor in the Department of Theatre & Dance at Texas State University. She holds an MFA in Dance from Case Western University in Cleveland, OH and a Bachelor degree in Exercise and Sport's Science from Texas State University. Kaysie’s current creative research is inspired by her time in New York City where she choreographed, performed, taught, and discovered the rewards of dance integration with other academics. While in NYC she studied with Dance Education Laboratory and worked with LEAP (Learning through an Expanded Arts Program), Young Audiences NY, and Notes in Motion. She is the director of the Arts Education Outreach multi-faceted program Creation in Motion, housed at Texas State University. This program includes dance and movement teacher training, after-school programs, summer camps, residencies, and interactive performances for youth by Creation in Motion Touring Ensemble #SPOTLIGHT for Young Audiences or CIM TEYA. Creation in Motion’s mission is to help children learn important academic and social/emotional concepts by creating uniquely engaging educational programs integrated with dance and technology that instill an appreciation and excitement for dance. In 2013 Kaysie was awarded the highly competitive Research Enhancement Program Grant to set up a tuition- free Creation in Motion after-school residency at Crockett Elementary in San Marcos, TX titled Enhancing the Learning of Science Through the Creation of Dance.
