MUSIC Music, Music Studies, Per formance, & Sound Recording Technolog y FACULTY ACCOLADES Ian Davidson was published by Trevco Music— the number one publisher of music for double reed instruments. They published "Five Works of Jackson Pollock for oboe solo" by Ian Davidson , Regents’ and University Distinguished Professor. Stephen Colburn, Principal Oboe of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, reviewed this work for the International Double Reed Society Journal . “ Five Works of Jackson Pollock is a twelve-plus minute work based on five of Pollock’s paintings. I especially enjoyed this piece, as the soloist-composer has an obvious understanding of the expressive and technical possibilities of the oboe, as well as the performing and composing chops to bring it off with aplomb.” The composition is recorded on the Wild Basin Winds album High Wood . [1] Ian performed as guest Principal Oboe in two subscription concerts with the San Antonio Philharmonic. He joined American Conductor Garrett Keats for a program that included Dances in the Canebrakes by American composer Florence Price, Violin Concerto no. 1 by Max Bruch, and Symphony no. 8 by Antonín Dvořák. Davidson later joined German Conductor Sebastian Lang-Lessing for Richard Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde and Dmitri Shostakovich’s Symphony no. 5 . Sam Flippin received a Research Enhancement Program award for “Experiencing the Creation of a New String Orchestra Ensemble at a Liberal Arts University.” Cynthia Gonzales represented the School of Music for the 2023 meeting of the Texas Society for Music Theory with presentations by Cynthia Gonzales , Associate Professor of Music Theory, Rebecca Eaton , Senior Lecturer of Music Theory, Jose M. Garza , Jr. Lecturer of Music Theory, and Stefanie Bilidas , Lecturer of Music Theory. The inclusion of four Texas Ian Davidson's work "Five Works of Jackson Pollock" was published by Trevco Music Dimitar Ninov delivered theory papers in Poland and Serbia Dayne Reliford was nominated for awards in Best Pianist/Keyboardist and Best Jazz 16 | January & February | College News 1 2 3
