6 | January & February | College News College of Fine Arts and Communication | 7 C3 CoFAC Spring Social at Industry on Thursday, February 27 The C3 Team will be hosting a Spring Social at local restaurant, Industry, from 4 PM to 6 PM on Thursday, February 27. All CoFAC faculty are welcome to at- tend this informal come-and-go event and enjoy some appetizers courtesy of Dean Fleming. Faculty will have the opportunity to catch up with colleagues from all five units in the college and ask the C3 Team questions about pursuing internal and external funding oppor- tunities. The spring semester is going fast, and Spring Break is right around the corner. Take some time to en- joy yourself and have some great conversations with the rest of our wonderful CoFAC faculty! If you have any questions about this event, please contact the C3 Team. Taking Advantage of C3 Resources in the spring! The C3 website has many resources that are available to CoFAC faculty. For example, C3 has recorded work- shops such as the Don’t Say R.I.P. to your REP work- shop, and others that have focused on the Fulbright: U.S. Scholars Program or Finding External Funding through PIVOT. You can now watch these workshops on C3’s Recorded Workshop webpage. All C3 affiliated workshops, such as the one focusing on the Research Enhancement Program, will become available on this webpage in the days following the conclusion of the workshops. All CoFAC faculty are encouraged to take advantage of these recorded workshops and the many other helpful resources located on C3’s website. DEPARTMENT ACCOLADES Communication Studies Welcomes Two New Assistant Professors for Fall 2025 Dr. Kellie Marin comes to Texas State from Utah Tech University where she has served as an assistant professor for the past two years. While there, she taught courses in Critical Thinking, Conspiracy Theories and Propaganda in Modern Media, Rhetorical Criticism, Rhetoric and Public Communication, and Public Speaking. Kellie also served as course coordinator for the public speaking, rhe- torical criticism, and persuasion courses. She earned her Ph.D. in 2022 from The Pennsylvania State University, where she was also a postdoctoral teaching fellow. Her research focuses on national security rhetoric, specifically how citizens interact with and discuss important nation- al security issues, how technologies bring us close to is- sues concerning immigration and terrorism, and how we can rethink security through more democratic practices. Kellie’s research has been published in S creen Bodies: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Experience, Perception, and Display and Communication, Rhetoric Society Quarterly, Surveillance & Society, and Communication and Critical/ Cultural Studies. Wallace S. Golding comes to Texas State from the Uni- versity of Illinois Urbana-Champaign where he is ready- ing to defend his dissertation. He specializes in rhetoric, race, and political culture and earned a graduate minor in African American Studies. Wallace studies the evo- lution of politicians’ and activists' political languages as they have sought to critique dominant understandings of citizenship and belonging, define their identities, and advocate change in democratic practice and policy. His dissertation investigates the rhetorical history of Black reparations advocacy from emancipation to the present. He has taught courses in public speaking and writing, rhetorical criticism and theory, public policy communi- cation, and visual rhetoric. His scholarship has appeared in journals such as Rhetoric & Public Affairs and Com- munication and Democracy and has received awards such as the Robert Bostrom Young Scholar Award from the Southern States Communication Association, the Nich- ols-Ehninger Award from the National Communication Association’s Rhetorical and Communication Theory Division, and the Robert Gunderson Award from NCA’s Public Address Division. Wallace is a first-generation college graduate committed to supporting students from backgrounds underrepresented in higher education.
