Faculty Accolades Greg Bolin has been commissioned to write a score for Austin Shakespeare’s Medea . A five-city exhibit tour, Stages of Struggle and Celebration: Black Theatre in Texas , launches on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at the George Washington Carver Museum and Cultural Center in Austin. The exhibit showcases Texas State University professors, Dr. Sandra M. Mayo and Elvin Holt’s groundbreaking research featured in their two books on Black Theatre in Texas: Acting Up and Getting Down: Plays by African American Texans and Stages of Struggle and Celebration: A Production History of Black Theatre in Texas . The tour will travel to Austin, Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, and Fort Worth. Student Accolades Julia Estrada will be playing Maria in West Side Story at Connecticut Repertory Theatre this summer. Anna Uzele has been hired to play lead roles in Dream Girls and Drowsy Chaperone at Oklahoma Lyric. Ryne Nardecchia will perform Mamma Mia at Theatre Aspen this summer. Michaela Boissonnault has been cast in the summer season at Fulton Theatre, including a lead role in Footloose . CK Anderson and Elizabeth Brady will be performing in Mary Poppins at Zach Scott in July and August. Nik Crawford will join the acting fellowship company for the MFA Playwrights’ Workshop at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., held in association with the National New Play Network.
