Toronto’s CKWR and Austin’s KMFA and KUT radio stations. After hosting the United States Army Brass Quintet at Texas State in January, Dr. Martin McCain was invited to be a guest soloist with the ensemble at the American Trombone Workshop in Ft. Myer, VA. He also served on the jury panel for the National Bass Trombone Solo Competition. Before heading to the DC area, McCain gave a masterclass for the Round Rock High School Trombone Choir and coordinated masterclasses with Texas State applied faculty for the Rowlett High School Band program. McCain and his chamber ensemble, the Minor 4th Trombone Quartet, were also guest soloists with the Kingsville Symphony Orchestra as a part of the quartet’s 10-year anniversary. Additionally, McCain was invited again to serve on the TMEA audition selection committee and will choose the All- State bass trombone repertoire for the 2016- 2017 year. Dr. Keith Winking conducted TMEA Region 28 Jazz Band in Harlingen . Student Accolades First-year MM-Performance student Michael Johnson recently composed the music for the most recent Texas State promotional video. The video can be viewed here. The Texas State Women’s Choir, directed by Dr. Lynn Brinckmeyer , participated in the 2015 Texas Collegiate Women’s Chorus Festival in San Antonio, Texas. Dr. Sandra Peter conducted the festival chorus and both Dr. Brinckmeyer and graduate assistant Emily Gunter conducted on the performance. Texas State School of Music had strong representation at the recent Southwest American Choral Directors Association conference held in Kansas City. Graduate Assistant Emily Gunter competed in the graduate conducting competition. Two other graduate assistants and five undergraduate choir students performed in the beautiful Kaufman Center with the Collegiate Honor Choir, under the direction of Dr. Allen Hightower . Alumni Accolades One of our recent graduates, Sam Parrott , serves as the artistic director for the Austin Children’s Chorus. The Austin Children’s Chorus collaborated with the Hill Country Youth Chorus to perform Rutter’s Mass of the Children at the University Presbytarian Church in Austin, Texas. Dr. Lynn Brinckmeyer is co-founder and artistic director for the Hill Country Youth Chorus.
