Ana premiered her original choreography “Loose Perspectives” at Merge Dance Company’s Resilient concert. Ana’s “Wild-er- ness” (live dance by Michelle Nance and Heike Salzer with multi projections, and live music by Richard Hall) and screendance “TerraBlue” were also presented at the concert. Kaysie Seitz Brown’s CIM TEYA (Creation in Motion Touring Ensemble for Young Audiences) was invited to perform “Echoes of the Skin” (choreographed by Brown and Nicole Wesley in collaboration with the dancers) at the Counter Life Herstories Conference. In March, Kaysie directed CIM TEYA as they performed for K - 5th graders at Berkman Elementary in Round Rock, TX. Michelle Nance performed in “Wild-er-ness” as part of Merge Dance Company’s annual concert Resilient at the Patti S. Harrison Teatre. Michelle premiered a new choreography entitled “Moxie” at Resilient , which will represent Texas State at the 2018 American College Dance Association in Beaumont, Texas. In addition to her work being adjudicated, Michelle also chaperoned 19 students and taught master classes at the American College Dance Festival. LeAnne Smith taught a beginner Modern Dance class to the Community High School’s dance team. Te Director for the Community High School’s dance team is alumnae, Ashlee Qualls Doud . In February, Scott Vandenberg collaborated with ARCOS Dance to beta test a new transmedia piece entitled Te Tower Is Us (A Prisoner’s Cinema) at the Museum of Human Achievement in Austin. [1] Teir beta test provided the creators with excellent feedback. Look for the next version to appear here in San Marcos this May. Nicole Wesley presented “Echoes of the Skin” in collaboration with Kaysie Seitz Brown at the Our Counter-Life Herstories Conference at Texas State. Nicole presented her work “Te JUSTICE Project” and directed Merge Dance Company performances at Austin Community College’s Faculty and Guest Artist Dance Concert. Nicole also performed the work “Samak” choreographed by TX ST Performance and Choreography student Julia Hutcherson at the Orchesis Dance Concert at Evans. [2] At the American College Dance Association Conference held at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, Nicole was on the panel Community Outreach in Higher Education Dance Courses, taught multiple master classes and chaperoned 19 TX ST dance students. STUDENT ACCOLADES Co-directed by Ana Baer and Nicole Wesley , Merge Dance Company presented their concert, Resilient at the Patti Strickel Harrison Teatre. Te company performed works choregraphed by faculty members Ana Baer and Michelle Nance as well as guest artists Tamara Ashley, Sharon Marroquin, and Heike Salzer, who also performed with Michelle Nance in “Wild-er- ness,” a combination live and video dance conceived and directed Heike Salzer and Ana Baer , with composition and live music performed by School of Music Faculty Richard Hall . Special production support for video surfaces in “Wild-er-ness” was provided by Erin Kehr. MFA Design Student Carlos Nine-Vila collaborated as lighting designer on “Loose Perspectives” and “Moxie,” which will be competing at ACDA in Beaumont, TX over Spring Break. DIVISION ACCOLADES Dance’s Recruitment and Outreach Coordinator Christa Oliver coordinated master classes for the Community High School’s dance team and Red Oak High School’s dance team, as well as, organized a performance at Spring Branch Middle School raising $750.00 for Merge Dance Company. Nicole Wesley taught a master class for Red Oak High School’s dance team and facilitated a performance by Merge Dance Company at Spring Branch Middle School for over 300+ students, including the dance teams from both the middle school and high school. [3] Led by director Kaysie Seitz Brown , over 600 elementary school children experienced CIM TEYA’s (Creation in Motion Touring Ensemble for Young Audiences) production of STREAM in Motion 4.0 , in the Patti Strickel Harrison Teatre. CIM TEYA’s blend of dance and education, covered topics from Science, in their piece “Erode,” to reading, from their piece “Sick,” based on the poem by Shel Silverstein and choreographed by faculty member Pat Stone , to tackling social and emotional issues in their pieces “#shakeitof” and “Anyone Can Dance.” Kaysie Seitz Brown led these young students on a journey of “edutainment” that this ensemble has been perfecting under her guidance for several years.
