COLLEGE OF FINE ARTS AND COMMUNICATION MARCH ISSUE SPRING 2018 LETTER FROM THE DEAN DR. JOHN FLEMING Our cover photo features our latest national champions in the College of Fine Arts and Communication. Tis is the 2nd National Championship for our LBJ Debate Society and Elton Abernathy Forensics Society. (Teir frst was in 2011.) Other National Campions in the College include our American Advertising Federation team, with national titles in 1990 and 2005 (with an additional two second fnishes and four third place fnishes). In addition, the School of Music won Opera Production of the Year from the National Opera Association for their 2013 production of Angelique . (And they earned a third place prize for their 2015 production of Speed Dating Tonight .) Since 2001, theatre students have won thirteen individual National Awards via the Kennedy Center American College Teatre Festival. Teatre also now has 49 KCACTF National Finalists (with p. 17 featuring the 5 most recent who will be competing in April for National Awards); this is the equivalent of earning All-American honors as each category only has 4-8 national fnalists each year. Tis sustained student achievement at the highest levels across units is a testament to the dedication and excellence of the faculty. Among faculty accolades, this issue also features our 19th and 20th Fulbright Scholar Awards as both Roseann Mandziuk (p. 9) and Holly Wise (p. 13) were selected for Fulbright Awards in India next year. My gratitude and congratulations to all. FOLLOW US ON SOCIAL MEDIA!
