COLLEGEOFFINEARTSANDCOMMUNICATION MARCH ISSUE SPRING 2019 LET TER FROM THE DEAN DR . JOHN FLEMING Welcome to the March 2019 edition of College News . Once again there is a wealth of accolades earned by faculty, students and alumni. Te faculty continue to be national leaders in their feld with Roseann Mandziuk in line to become the President of the National Communication Association (p. 7) and Judy Oskam being the 2nd place recipient of the Scripps Howard Foundation Administrator of the Year Award (p.12). Meanwhile Lynzy Lab is making her mark nationally and internationally, with recent recognition from InStyle magazine as one of ffty women who are changing the world (p.11). Students continue to excel with the Wind Symphony and Bobcat Marching Band being recognized by the College Band Directors National Association (p.14) and Te University Star earning accolades from the Society of Professional Journalists and Texas Associated Press Managing Editors (p.13). Likewise, numerous theatre students were recognized by the Kennedy Center American College Teatre Festival (pp. 17-18) and Allison Price was selected for an opera directing internship in Italy (p.17). In addition, alumni continue to be recognized for their excellence: Communication Design alum Sarah Dodds earned her 5th Grammy nomination (p.3); Debbie Hiott won the Jack Douglas Award for service to Texas journalism (p.13); and Natasha Straley was awarded Filmmaker of the Year at the Austin Revolution Film Festival (p.17). Finally, it is important to recognize the shared partnership between Texas State University and the city of San Marcos. Examples of community outreach can be found on p.8. Likewise, I am extremely grateful to Lisa and Jim Bob Spencer and Sharon Lockett for their generous support of music scholarships (p.15). My gratitude and congratulations to all.
