Caudle's lighting design for the production of Every BrilliantTing 14 | March | College News THEATRE Acting, Musical Theatre, Per formance and Production, Teacher Certif ication in Theatre, Technical Production, & Theatre FACULTY ACCOLADES Sarah EC Maines was invited to respond to student lighting design work at the Kennedy Center American College Teatre Festival Region 7 annual conference in Fort Collins, CO. While at the conference she presented a seminar, "Collaboration in the Digital Age." Jim Price’s play Carving Buddhas is a fnalist at Te Last Frontier Playwright’s Conference and will have a reading in June in Valdez, Alaska directed by Kaitlin Hopkins . Caitlin Turnage’s play What We Scream Underwater When No One Can Hear Us was named runner-up for the Harold and Mimi Steinberg award with the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. STUDENT ACCOLADES Several current students traveled to the Kennedy Center American College Teatre Festival Region 6 Annual conference. B.F.A. Technical Production student presentations included Sabrina Entrekin as Draper for Little Women winning the Region 6 Award for Excellence in Costume Crafts and Technology, Riley O’Sullivan as Draper for Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead [ 1 ] , Johnny Painter as Lighting Designer for Lydia [ 2 ] , Megan Whittington as Lighting Designer for Harvest winning a Stagecraft Institute of Las Vegas Award for Excellence in Technology and Design, Bailey Nance and George Sanchez as Sound Designers for Te Survivors winning the National Partners in American Teatre Award. M.F.A. Design student presentations included Gary Tornsberry’s scenic design for Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead [ 1 ] , Erin Lavespere’s non- realized scenic and costume designs for A Midsummer Night’s Dream , WilliamWard’s costume design for Little Women winning the Barbizon Award for Teatrical Design Excellence in Costume Design, Carlos Nine’s lighting design for Te Tempest winning the Meritorious Achievement in Lighting Design Award, and Andrew McDaniels’s lighting design for Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead [ 1 ] winning the Barbizon Award for Teatrical Design Excellence in Lighting Design. B.F.A. Acting Major Malik James has been admitted into the M.F.A. acting program at Yale. Erin Lavespere (2nd year M.F.A. Design) and Gary Tornsberry (3rd year M.F.A. Design) presented a workshop entitled “Prague Quadrennial 2019: Student Perspectives of Changes in Scenographic Practices” at both Southwest United States Institute of Teatre Technology and at Kennedy Center American College Teatre Festival Region 6. Teir workshop was the culmination of their research at the Prague Quadrennial International Performance Design and Space conference. Texas State playwrights swept at KCACTF this February with Madison Miller and Lila Perlman being named regional fnalists for the Gary Garrison Ten-Minute Play contest and Vic Shuttee and Payton Russell being named regional fnalists for the John Cauble short play award. Lila Perlman’s play Te Golem and Te Maharal's Wife is the second place recipient of the Kennedy Center's Gary Garrison National Ten-Minute Play Award. She is invited to attend the National Festival at the Kennedy Center. M.F.A. third year Directing Candidate Allison Price was named Outstanding Graduate Student of the Year for the College of Fine Arts and Communication. Sydney Smith and Carlos Nine , M.F.A. Lighting Design, have been accepted to present their work at the annual Hemsley Portfolio Review in New York City. Sydney is a fnalist for the Hemsley Internship Program with New York City Ballet. Gary Tornsberry (3rd year M.F.A. Scene Design) designed scenery and Sydney Smith (3rd year MFA Lighting Design) designed lights for Ground Floor Teatre’s production of Single Black Female (Austin). Max Wallace , B.F.A. Technical Production, will be attending the M.F.A. Lighting Design program at Boston University studying under New York City Ballet Resident Lighting Designer Mark Stanley beginning Fall 2020. ALUMNI ACCOLADES Meiyee Apple Tam is a recurring character in the AMC show Dispatches from Elsewhere , starring Jason Segal, Sally Field, and Andrew Benjamin. Meiyee is also in two national commercials airing soon for Service Now and Carmax. Audrey Webb’s play If You Go Out will have a staged reading at Cold Comfort Teater (Maine) in May. DEPARTMENT ACCOLADES Men On Boats by Jaclyn Backhaus opened to packed houses in the PSH Foundation Teatre in early March. Te production was directed by M.F.A. Directing Candidate Aaron Sparks with lighting design by frst year M.F.A. Lighting Designer Mackenize Mulligan . Te costumes were designed by frst year M.F.A. student Eric Robertson . Te set was designed by second year M.F.A. Designer Anndee Alvidrez . Te sound was designed by sophomore Dylan Byrnes . Te production stage manager was Jenny Dang . Te cast included: Dani Trevino , Marisa Mendoza , Reese , Lauren Green , Alana Garcia , Jonaee’ Davis , Marie Lauderdale , Grace Hickey , Abigail Remaley , Lila Perlman and Mariah Epps . ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT M.F.A. Lighting Design alumna Annalise V. Caudle has both assisted and designed this spring. Lighting designs include Of Of Broadway design for Gallery Players production of Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike , regional design for Florida Rep’s production of Every Brilliant Ting [ 3] , Annapolis Shakespeare production of You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown and Treasure Island , and Skyline Teatre production of Dames at Sea .
