COLLEGE OF FINE ARTS AND COMMUNICATION MARCH I SSUE | SPR I NG 202 1 LETTER FROM THE DEAN DR. JOHN FLEMING Spring is in the air, and Bobcats keep excelling. Art and Design faculty exhibited in New York, Chicago, Omaha, Santa Fe, Houston, and San Antonio. Tey presented research at the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts and at the National Art Education Association Women’s Caucus. In addition, Texas State was the most represented university at the Rockport Center for the Arts Rising Eyes of Texas exhibit, with top prize going to new alum Emily Berger (pp.2-3). In Communication Studies, Ann Burnette was elected to a position that will make her the future President of the Southern States Communication Association, while Maureen Keeley was featured in the New York Times (pp.6-7). Alum Donte Mathis was inducted to the Texas State Athletics Hall of Honor (p.7). In Dance, Christa Oliver was featured in the flm Te Resilient Artist and presented to an online audience in London, while Ana Baer and collaborators presented their work in Mexico, Greece, Brazil, and at Stanford (p.8). Te CIMTEYA interactive dance production streamed to homes and classrooms across Texas as well as to Trinidad and Tobago (p.9). Journalism and Mass Communication students covered SXSW, while Judy Oskam was elected to the Board of the Headliners Foundation (p.10). In Music, Kevin Mooney published Texas Jazz Singer , a book about legendary vocalist Louise Tobin (pp.12-13). Faculty also presented research at the American String Association, Music Teachers National Association Conference, and the National Association For Music Education (pp.12- 13). In addition, Richard Hall was published in Te Bloomberg Handbook of Dance and Philosophy (p.13). In Teatre, Laura Lane is performing in the Humana Festival at the Actors Teatre of Louisville. Students and alums are working on Walker, Texas Ranger and can be seen in American Underdog , Snowfall , Senior Moment , My Boy , and a Famous Footwear commercial (pp.14-15).
