MUSIC Music, Music Studies, Per formance, & Sound Recording Technolog y FACULTY ACCOLADES David Catchpole, received the Margery Lowens Dissertation Research Fellowship from the Society for American Music in support of his dissertation on corporate-sponsored symphonic radio broadcasts in the 1930s and 1940s. Additionally, Catchpole gave a paper titled “Symphonies, Sermons, and Selling Cars: Religious Rhetoric and the Shaping of Citizens on the Ford Sunday Evening Hour” at the 2023 Annual Conference for the Society for American Music in Minneapolis, MN. [1] Ian Davidson , appeared as guest principal oboe with the San Antonio Philharmonic, conducted by Andrew Grams, in Mozart’s Symphony no. 41 and Haydn’s Symphony no. 95. Daris Hale was selected for a short-term Fulbright Specialist Award to Nepal. Hale presented, performed, and taught at Tribhuvan University and the Nepal National Music Center in Kathmandu between March 12 and 28. Hank Hehmsoth continues his work with the Braille music project, converting music notation into Braille for visually impaired musicians in South America. An outgrowth of his first Senior Fulbright Specialist award, the Brazil music project recently received notice in a Texas State Newsroom Featured Faculty article.
