Ana Martinez is a theatre scholar and performance designer. She holds a doctoral degree in Theatre Studies from the City University of New York, an M.A. in Scenography from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London, and an Architecture degree from Universidad Anahuac in Mexico. #FACULTY SPOTLIGHT Sam Garcia was named a national semi-finalist for KCACTF region 6 for her play In the Dark Box . Angelica Hadiwibowo was awarded the Barbican KCACTF award for Theatrical design excellence for their design of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime . Brydon Lidle, Ollie Payne, Jennifer Gonnzalez, and Hannah Wilson were awarded the Heart of the Art award at KCACTF region 6 for their work on Antigone . Ollie Payne won the KCACTF Randy Lutz Allied Design and Technology award for their work on Antigone . Roark won the regional award for Technical Management Excellence for their work on Life Sucks . Sarah Rosenkranz was the runner up for their work on Life Sucks . Sarah Rosenkrannz , Javier Sanchez , Ollie Paynne , Roark , and Jules Cabrera were awarded the Don Childs Cross Discipline Collaboration Award at KCACTF region 6 for their work on Life Sucks . Javier Sanchez won the Barbican KCACTF award for Theatrical design excellence for their work on Life Sucks . Bryon Lidle was the runner up. DEPARTMENT ACCOLADES Texas State’s Theatre department presented Young, Gifted, And Black Celebration an inaugural performance. Songs, monologues, and scenes were directed, produced, and performed by over 30 black Texas State University artists. The program was founded by Bobcat Anyae Anasia . The Theatre and Dance students dedicated the show to Shirley Harris, Texas State University's first African-American transfer student to graduate. She earned her education degree from South Western Texas in 1967, and taught in San Antonio elementary schools for 40 years. Her brother (also the first Black student athlete on the track team) presented a scholarship in her name. [2] Texas State Theatre department presented Mala Hierba by Tanya Saracho in early February through mid March. The show featured work by Bobcats: Miranda College of Fine Arts and Communication | 15 Marquez , Montserrat Luna , Allison Mendoza , Alyssa Hurtado , Maddie Rasco , Kelly Connaughton , Stephanie Acevedo , Frida Cantu , and Ryan Scott Long . Texas State Theatre Department presented DeMaskUs A.K.A Running devised and scripted by faculty member Nadine Mozon in late February. The show included work by Bobcats: Aaron Jacob May , Oscar Hough , Devon Khalsa , Ronisha Reneus , AJ , Daniela Recabarren , and Kate Herlihy . [3] ALUMNI ACCOLADES Kristopher Alvarado ’s solo piece Hung in the Gloom has been selected to have its world premier at the United Solo Festival at Theatre Row in NYC. Stephen Brower and Lily Kren were cast in the revival of The Who’s Tommy at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago. Jonah Fukijawa was featured on local author’s night at Book People in Austin for his book Hidden Treasures: Cathedral of Junk . Preston Perez made his Broadway debut in Beautiful Noise . Ryan Scarlata was named new managing artistic director of Stageworks Theatre in Houston. Ben Toomer was a guest star on Law and Order: Organized Crime . Anna Uzele performed on The Late Show .
