LETTER FROM THE DEAN DR. JOHN FLEMING On the cover, Annie Silverstein and her co-directors won two awards for Best Short Documentary at this year’s South by Southwest (p.14). Art faculty presented their work in California, Wisconsin, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, New York, and across Texas (pp. 2-3). Alum Hope Mora, whose work has been commissioned by The New Yorker and Vogue , returned to campus for an exhibit and talk with students (p.3). In Communication Studies, Elizabeth Eger and Manu Pokharel presented at the Health Scholar Showcase, while Kristen Farris published in American Behavioral Scientist (pp.6-7). In Dance, Christa Oliver and Torens Johnson organized the Merge Dance Company tour that performed for six high schools in the Dallas/Arlington area (pp.8- 9). Both a student work and a faculty work were selected for performance at the Gala concert of the regional American College Dance Festival (p. 9). In Journalism and Mass Communication, Nandini Bhalla published in the Journal of Public Relations Education, and Judy Oskam was a featured speaker at the American Advertising Federation Student Advertising Career Conference (pp.10-11). Student Jenna Ramon and alum Erica Fierro were selected as two of the fifty Most Promising Multicultural Students by the American Advertising Federation (p.11). Alum Glen McMicken has enjoyed a long career with USA Track & Field and won the 2022 Don Potts Award, while alum Justin Sprague was a 2017 Emmy Winner and is now the Vice President COVER PHOTO: Annie Silverstein and her co-directors won two awards for Best Short Documentary at this year’s South by Southwest [ P. 1 4] of Development at Terminal B TV (p.11). In Music, Daris Hale was Fulbright Specialist in Nepal, while Kevin Mooney was a guest on Austin’s PBS station (pp.12-13). Student Evan Blanché won the Golden Hornet String Quartet Smackdown VIII, while Thomas Shafer and Jorge Rivera have advanced to the quarterfinals of the National Trumpet Competition (p.13). Theatre students won many of the top awards at the regional Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival, with Rachel Aho, Sam Garcia, Angelica Hadiwibowo, Ollie Payne, and Javier Sanchez all advancing to the Kennedy Center as National Finalists (pp.14-15). Alum Preston Perez made his Broadway debut, Ben Toomer guest starred on Law & Order: Organized Crime , and Anna Uzele gave a solo performance on The Late Show (p.15).
